Turrittopsis dohrnii is a sea creature that has seemingly discovered the secret to eternal life. Commonly known as the “Immortal Jellyfish," the turrittopsis dohrnii first develop as a larva, called a planula, that settles on the ocean floor before developing into a colony of polyps. These polyps spawn free-swimming medusae that grow into adulthood in mere weeks. Fully grown, this jellyfish is approximately 4.5mm and is identifiable by their transparent, bell-shaped bodies, bright red stomachs, and up to 90 white tentacles. What makes this creature unique is when facing starvation or physical damage, it is able to cheat death by reverting back to their earlier polyp stage and reset their developmental process. The reborn polyp colony once again spawns medusae that are genetically identical to their adult form.
