Whenever I visit a zoo or place that has a bird avery I tend to always look to see if they have anytype of lorikeet birds that can be fed and held. I love their bright vivid colours and personality. They have a impish personality and like to stay busy playing with toys and finding ways to amuse themselves and those around them. Lorikeets are very intelligent and love spending time outside of their cage and are diffcult to get them to go back into it once they are out. Lorikeets are very intelligent and are able to learn how to unlock their own cages in order to be able to flee so one has to pay extra attention so they do not attempt to flee.

Lorikeets often are able to learn many words and like to amuse people around them for attention. They are very social and also one has to go out of their way to socialize them with different people because they have been known to form very close attachment to their owner. It is often advised to have a pair of lorikeets verses one becasue they require lots of quality attention from their owner when in pairs they tend to stay more content and easier to handle.

Lorikeets diet should include nectar or pollen mixture, breadcrumbs, baby cereals, oats, sunflower seeds and eucalyptus flowers.

Interesting Facts About Rainbow Lorikeets

• When the female lorikeets incubate eggs the male usually feeds the female.
• In the 1960s they was considered pests in Western Australia and was accidently released in great numbers into the wild.
• Rainbow Lorikeets stay monogamous throughout their lives.
• They like to roost in a unique posture and positions and also likes to wrap up into blankets and pieces of cloth.
