Back to the wildlife rescue and glamping in Beechworth.

I haven't done an update on any of the animals recently and i took a few pictures when i was up there the last few days so i thought I would do a post about them again.

Beechworth wildlife stays is where ill be moving to and working as of march this year, whilst helping out with the wildlife rescue and trading crypto. The animals in the rescue at the moment include 3 little birds (I don't actually know what they are...) 1 of them is too small to fly but is very pretty colors, the other 2 can fly and we attempted to release them but they just keep flying back to their cage at night to be fed and sleep in there so unsuccessful so far.

There's the baby Kangaroo Rusty who is finally able to hop around by himself! I'm not allowed to post pictures of any of the rescue animals because of some licencing shit and the fact it could be considered advertising for the glamping business, but trust me, hes fucking adorable. He basically looks like this

The Kookaburra was successfully rehabilitated and released at some point before i was there.

Then at the actual wildlife stays we have a new snake addition, 2 actually but i only managed to get pictures of one.
This is the aggressive little Olive Python that has bitten me, my step-dad twice, my mum once and 3 other people... He's not venomous but he does grow to be quite large so could be a future issue if he doesn't calm down a bit. He's also growing in size so it is starting to hurt a little.

He's just hanging in his outdoor tent to get some sun. He's a little bastard but they're such pretty snakes.

Billy the crocodile is pretty much enormous now, he hasn't really grown lengthwise but he has gotten alot wider and fatter. Sitting about 3m or so long and probably weighing close to 80-90kg now he's getting to be quite the big boy.

Given he can grow to 6m long and weigh 1,000 Kg he is still relatively small but every time I see him he just looks so much bigger. Crocodiles tend to grow depending on how much they eat, the more they eat the bigger they get. Billy has been getting fed twice a day and a decent amount recently as his feeding time is often a little show for the visitors.
It's not too much food for him but it's sure making him big quick, in fact we will be upgrading his enclosure walls to be taller, probably out of perspex so visibility is still there but they will need to be higher at his current rate.

He eats mostly chicken necks and steak at the moment, though every so often you will find a big puff of feathers in his enclosure from some poor bird that landed in the wrong spot and wasn't fast enough. Poor things. So long as my cat doesn't wander in there it'll be alright. She is an idiot though, hmmm.

There are of course my new favorites, the emus! These absolute nutcases just run around everywhere really fast and crash into stuff, they're so unco its hilarious. They're getting quite tall though now and their legs and feet are so big. I'd say they're close to my chest height and i'm 6 ft 4 so they aren't small. Because they've been hand raised they are super friendly, you can walk straight up to them with your hand out and they will come and have a look, super curious too. They aren't the smartest animal but they seem to have an interest in everything. They try and steal shit out of your pockets and bite your zippers and cords, one of them took a liking to my dreadlocks and was trying to pull them from my head. The other stole my lit cigarette at one point out of my hand and started running around with it.

They get let out first thing in the morning with the goats and other animals and they come running straight up to where they get fed. Mums dog plays with them and they all chase a stick together and have breakfast and then little Rusty the kangaroo comes out and hops around and eats grass too. It's very cute seeing them all playing together, 2 emus a dog and a baby kangaroo is a strange sight. Plus mums dog is such a sweetie she's friends with everyone and everything. She gets attacked by the goats though for some reason so she has to hide behind someone when they come out hahahaha. such a little sook, i love her.

Carlos the Cockatoo is possibly my favorite of all the animals, I've said before but he was found walking along a residential street and after failing to find his owners he went to live in Beechworth. He's a snappy thing to new people, It's not that he doesn't like you but he's testing you, put your hand near him and he rears up and his feathers come out and then he lunges at pecks you. It doesn't hurt even though he can hurt you if he wants to, but it's to see if you're scared of him. He's quite smart and knows a few phrases now, he's also just a cheeky little fucker, but hes awesome.

Me and him have bonded and he loves me now, if i put my hand out he tries to put his head into it like above for scratches. He loves a good under the wing scratch too. I like getting him and just sitting him on my lap while we watch TV or something. He just sits there loving the scratches, might go and hassle the cat but otherwise he's happy to just sit around.

Next weekend we are picking up 8 Wallabies. It can be quite dangerous to transport them as they die easily so they will be sedated and then put in 2 per car. Driven back and put in their enclosed space for a few days to minimize the risk. After that they will be put into the proper enclosure and be just like the others :)
I'll do a post next weekend when i go up to help and put some wallaby pics up if i can get some.
