Very remarkable is also the ability of the lemurs to live wonderfully with the local climatic conditions. During the rainy season, the animals store as much fat and energy as possible and consume these reserves during the dry season. Occasionally the lemurs can fall into a real rigidity to save energy and survive until the next rainy season. Sometimes the lemurs lose up to 50 percent of their body weight - a very special form of hibernation. However, it must also be said that now only 10 percent of the total area of Madagascar can really live on lemurs, since the formerly dense forest land was gradually cleared. In total, the lemurs live on an area of between 50,000 and 60,000 square kilometres.
