Governments and mafia can be pretty much the same
I am sure must of us believe that having a centralized authority in the form of a strong government is practically a requirement to be able to coexist in our society, even to the point that the whole world seems not to assimilate another idea. As if it were just another one of our genes, people might think about government protection confusing it with freedom, believing that this is the only possible way one for a peaceful coexistence.
When the mafias ruled and, in fact, still do in some parts of the world, their method was to go with their weapons, their black suits, their dark glasses and their intimidating faces from door to door, from merchant to merchant to threaten them with ending their lives if they didn’t paid a periodic income. When the mobster went to the store for the first time and established an amount that the merchant agreed to pay, it was only a matter of days to return for more, increasing the “rent” at will and the merchant had no choice but to pay. How did the mafia get the merchant to accept such injustice? Using force and weapons to threaten, their methods were fear, weapons and force. Eventually, it seemed normal to the merchant that every day, week or month, he had something to pay and the more he produced the higher the payment that was expected.
What is the difference between these methods and those used by a government?
Let's analyze how the government works. Be of whatever nature, we do not currently know a society that works without taxes, because these are the method of financing of this huge entity called government. In order to collect taxes from citizens, the government needs to pressure them in some way because otherwise people would not pay them, not even those people that support higher taxes, and more government intervention, which is very ironic.
A government has a monopoly on the use of force and control over the legislation, with which they can use weapons at their discretion and impose laws authorizing them to do so. If you do not pay your taxes, an official probably wearing a black suit or official uniform, dark glasses, intimidating face and authorization to use the public force, will visit you with an ultimatum informing that if you do not pay the taxes they will put you in jail.
How does a government make citizens accept such a thing? Using force, using the possession of weapons and the legislation that authorizes them. Its methods are: threat, law and weapons, very similar to the one used by the mafia.
Why should we make this reflection?
Because our societies can be so much better if we all decide not to approve more systematic injustices, because we gave the mafia legal authority to turn a crime into a "moral" act, and by doing this, we allow success to be punished. Only those countries that have gone towards systems more respectful of individual rights are the ones that are succeeding and serving as an example for other societies.
Why are there people still supporting decisions that can make governments bigger than what they already are?

Maybe I generalized every society and government, but are there countries that we can look up to?
There are certainly countries that are better than others regarding their respect towards freedom of the people.
For example, many countries trying to ban or damage cryptocurrencies, aren't very friendly towards freedom. Other countries like Switzerland can be considered as friendly towards our freedom
