The Ecological, Tourist, and Recreational State Park "Sierra Hermosa" was created by decree of the Governor of the State of Mexico Lic. Emilio Chuayffet Chemor in April 1994. The park was decreed on April 5, 1994, with a total of 653 hectares, however, dated May 20, 1997, the decree was modified, assigning a total of 35 hectares to the Technological University of Tecámac.

The Park is located northeast of the Valley of Mexico, in the municipality of Tecámac and has the following boundaries; to the North with the municipality of Tizayuca, to the East with Temascalapa and Teotihuacán and to the West with Zumpango, Nextlalpan, and Jaltenco. The main purpose of the park is recreational, but retains the most important body of water in the municipality, inside the park is the sports Tecámac.

The Park is located between the extreme coordinates: 19 ° 41'33 "and 19 ° 43'20" North; 98 ° 58'29 "and 99 ° 00'43" West. The State Park "Sierra Hermosa" has an antecedent that until the 70s it was a group of milk-producing ranches owned by Colonel Carlos I. Serrano.

From the environmental perspective and given its location in the Valley of Mexico, the Sierra Hermosa State Park is part of the Ecological Conservation Project of the Valley of Mexico, aimed at preserving, restoring and protecting 22,216.7 ha. of 5 Protected Natural Areas of state competence located in the eastern area of the State of Mexico, in order to promote the environmental improvement of the Cuautitlán-Texcoco Valley.
