Wondering your next destination? Don’t! I have the best place for you.
So, if you were planning Mexico, well done, but if you didn’t plan anything, take a pen and paper, write it down “Mexico here we come”!
Yes! So, Mexico is a fun destination for your vacation, trip or name it whatever you want, but you will have the best time,
and if you are wondering where in Mexico, you are going northeast, a second largest city in the state of Tamaulipas, Matamoros was also known as Heroica Matamoros.
You will enjoy your stay and have a lot of fun touring around the city, visiting attractions that will blow your mind.
So, one of your attraction is a museum that you have to put on your bucket list which is a more than special place in Matamoros.
The museum - "MACT: Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Tamaulipas" is one of your attraction you have to visit while you are in Matamoros.
The museum was constructed in 1969, and it was something like a craft center. But so many years later, in 2002, after several transformations,
it was opened as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tamaulipas, shortened MACT.
As said above, it is more than a museum, it provides an enhancement, and it is a place where you can enjoy different disciplines of art.
If you wonder how the museum looks like, well, it is an open-air theater with a central patio and a lobby. There are 3 exhibition halls, artistic workshops and also a bookstore.
There are many social events such as dance presentations, stage shows, reading club, book presentation, lectures, conferences and so much more. It is really “all in one culture time.”

The open hours of the museum are:

  • Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Sundays from 12:00 am to 4:00 pm

Follow them on social media, Facebook page and always be updated with the news, also check out pictures, videos of the museum.
They say that the museum, let me quote, “Aims to collaborate in the process of distribution, production, consumption, and analysis of the visual arts in the state and
be a recipient of the advanced artistic proposals of national and international art.”
Besides all this, you will have a chance to see a large number of paintings, sculptures, and plastic works. Also, you can get to know the art of architect Mario Pani Darqui, his works have won the National Architecture Awards, and it is now a part of a National Heritage.
Jose Luis Cueva, a famous Mexican artist, said that bigger cities need museums like this one, because of its beauty and the support that it has for art.

The official address of the museum is Av. Constitución and Calle 5, Col. Jardín.
