Amazon Loves the Tax Man
Your super seller delivery store is raking in over $1 billion in tax breaks as many of its workers survive on food stamps. Massive distribution centers are being carved out in every U.S. state like so much totalitarian architecture as workers struggle to make ends meet as they ship $400 gaming systems out the door. Amazon gets state incentives to build their shipping centers and federal breaks to help pay their workforce, a pretty good gig for them as the tax payers fill Bezos’ billion dollar coffers with more digital loot.
Since 2000 Amazon has received $1 from over 125 communities in the U.S. desperate for “economic development”, a subsidy number that is now larger than Walmart’s corporate welfare haul. Amazon has an entire division dedicated to seeking subsidies and relieving tax payers of even more bread. Amazon already effectively avoids most sales taxes via their online model. For an average distribution center, Amazon shells out $30 million for 1, 000 employees, which is close to the $26,000 poverty line per employee. But emergency responders have been kept busy, on average making several visits per week to facilities to attend to injured workers. And who pays for that? In most deals Amazon pays no property tax, so again, it comes out of local coffers.
To fulfill its lofty two-day and prime delivery goals, Amazon needs facilities in every major U.S. metro area and many in between, so why are localities continually opening their wallets to be robbed by Amazon? It’s the same race to the bottom mentality, FUD, and FOMO that is turning the rest of the world into an oligarchy as well. I’ve been boycotting Wal-Mart for years and now I’m going to add a second corporate offender to the list for 2018, Amazon.com !! Just say no to FANGS !!
