Amazing Whale Rescue

I love nature. I love life. The times we live in are so exciting, as technology races ahead and we discover more about the universe we inhabit. Life is a miracle, the world and the universe are miracles. You, dear reader, are a miracle.

We are miraculous creatures in a miraculous universe, and I just can't help but occasionally stop what I'm doing and just be in awe of it all. And you know what? It doesn't even matter what your world-view is; if you believe that all this miraculous stuff is created in a Big Bang or by a God, it doesn't diminish the sheer grandeur of your existence either way. The greatest miracle ever in the universe is us, as far as we know; we are "stuff" that's able to ponder on the origins, the evolution and the meaning of all that "stuff". We are the universe trying to figure itself out.

Closer to home, right here on Earth, look at all the amazing stuff we're surrounded with, how everything relates to everything else. All those miraculous life-forms, one not able to survive without the other, tightly inter-related in harmonious eco-systems, maintaining a natural balance in which creatures of stupendous diversity unknowingly perform their task in the Grand Chain of Life. A chain starting out there, with our own star, the Sun. All live is connected to the greater universe through the Sun, as all life on Earth is driven by the Sun's energy. It's no coincidence, I don't believe, that many of the earliest known religions were some sort of Sun-worship, and they all have some sort of flood or other important role for water, as water and the Sun are life's key ingredients.

That's why I ascribe my love for nature, and love for nature in general, not to the scientific, but the instinctual, primitive knowledge of the importance of life's binding factors, like the Sun and the water. There's no better recipe for awe, than to gaze at a starry night sky, to the millions of other suns, or to gaze at nature's beauty, the millions of other creatures dancing the same dance of life everlasting, in an everlasting universe.

So my heart skipped a beat, out of pure happiness and an all encompassing feeling of love for the animal and people involved, when I saw this old video from 2011 about some people who rescues a humpback whale that's trapped by a fisherman's net. Please watch it, listen to the reactions and watch the whale's reaction. Seeing this made me hopeful, hopeful that we will one day understand that we're connected to all other life, to all the universe in fact, and act accordingly.
