The Legend of the Mech Emperor

Ever since the universe was young, forces of good and evil have fought each other in an eternal battle for dominance.

On a fateful day two centuries ago, it seemed like evil had finally won. Twisted, cruel and terrible to behold, their forces plunged the universe into 200 years of brutal oppression; trillions of beings on millions of planets perished under this regime.

One ominous figure, more machine than man, was the harbinger of this evil that had been unleashed upon the universe — The Mech Emperor. There are several legends which surround the Mech Emperor, but the truth remains shrouded in the mist of time, and fear.

Some say that he was a man once; a man of science who was driven by nothing but curiosity. His nature drove him to perhaps the most enticing mystery that the universe kept within its folds; the galaxy of Fabula. Brilliant as he was, the young scientist eventually perfected the technology to mine the stars for stardust.

The Thirst for Stardust
Stardust was a substance unlike any other. Pliable yet powerful, it could be used for practically any purpose. It wasn’t surprising then that stardust made its way into every economy in the universe. Be it households or industries; everything ran on stardust.

And all the supply of this magical substance was in the hands of one gifted scientist.

But even the greatest minds aren’t incorruptible; the allure of wealth and unbridled power slowly put its arms around him, beckoning him softly, consuming him. His monopoly over stardust gave him an overwhelming influence over the economies of the universe. He used it to crush entire civilizations and empires, until the entire universe bent to his will. Thus began the 200 years of suffering.

But his lust for power wasn’t satiated. The scientist, who was now known and feared as the Mech Emperor, imposed draconian laws and ridiculous taxes over his subjects, all to maintain his mammoth military forces and to fuel his research on stardust. The amount of time he spent on the stars, trying to uncover their secrets changed something within him, slowly but surely; it was as though stardust now flowed within his veins. His power was growing exponentially and it seemed as though nothing could stop him.

But fate perhaps decided to give a fighting chance to the last remaining forces for good.
Greed turns into Mistake

Not long ago, the Mech Emperor was overlooking the mining of the very first star he had extracted stardust from, when the star gave a mighty shudder and exploded into a million glowing shards.

They found his body, twisted and charred, floating within the debris. The Mech Emperor was not dead, but he wasn’t alive either. Scientists and doctors put him back together, replacing lost limbs with cybernetic prosthetics, until he was more machine than man. Finally, the members of the ancient civilization of Ark, who had been subdued by the Mech Emperor long ago, revived his fading consciousness and bonded it with his repaired body.

When they were done, they realized that they had created an abomination. The being which now sat on the throne of the Empire was crueler and more power hungry than anything they had ever seen — he was the Mech Emperor.

Fortunately, the exploding star took with it the wormhole which led to the Fabula and the mystical galaxy was lost to the rest of the universe.

Death Ray-The Ultimate Demise
With his stardust mines gone, the Mech Emperor’s power over his subjects, diminished. Although he retains control over most of the universe, the rebel forces have become bolder. The Mech Emperor still has a sizeable reserve of stardust aboard his Death Ray, in which he roams, searching for the lost galaxy.

His massive Starbase is a replica of a star from the Fabula, casting an ominous light over the planets under his domain. To those who are unfortunate enough to look, it is a reminder of the might and power of his tyrannical empire.
