Gridcoin Community Hangout #045

A massive shout out to the BeyondBitcoin community & @officialfuzzy for providing the Gridcoin community a room in their mumble server for free. Also, to @fkinglag for providing a live stream of the Hangouts and Classrooms for more ways to get in on the action! :D

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

Why are we holding these hangouts?

  • A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via text.
  • To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC, and related services & their development progress.
  • To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities, and our users.

How long will the hangout last?

Anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 and a half hours!

When the Gridcoin Community Hangouts start really picking up traction we can become more strict with allocated speaking time if need be (so you're not waiting hours to talk).

Want to suggest a topic to discuss?

Reply with your suggestions in this Steemit post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest upvotes.

Can we discuss anything?

It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/cryptocurrency.

That said, this 'on topic' guideline fizzles away once official recording has ended & the hangout becomes a more relaxed environment.

Gridcoin Hangout #045 will be held on:

December 9, 2017 @ 7pm UTC.

Compare 7pm UTC to your time zone!

I thought about setting up a Gridcoin community steemit account. The details are in this post. I hope it's okay to link this here as the post is a bit long for a comment.

Gridcoin price: discussion involving our thoughts on growing Gridcoin versus developing to spike the price. Also, warning about shilling Gridcoin during price pumps (like I did during yesterday's ATH)

  • Bitcoin price more than doubled for a brief period of time.
  • Gridcoin price spiked during this time.
  • Gridcoin will now be mentioned in comparison to Bitcoin at the end of a video on the PBS Space Time YouTube channel.
  • Discuss recent github development.
  • Gridcoin Classroom recap and such, like how there is another one next week.

What can we do to smooth out the processes of whitelisting new BOINC projects?

What from the old roadmap should we bring into the roadmap currently under development?

https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/759095/Gridcoin-Roadmap/

SourceSafe appears to be very old tech. no idea what is going on there. from wiki: "Visual SourceSafe's stability is criticised due to the way Visual SourceSafe uses a direct, file-based access mechanism that allows any client to modify a file in the repository after locking it. If a client machine crashes in the middle of updating a file, it can corrupt that file."

Multiple developers: ones that can do graphene dev, i guess... ;)

DRP/DPP: web-dev seems to be covered, other than sharing the SSL keys (up to Rob). i'd nominate @cm-steem to handle this, as he already handles most of the top-shelf website dealings. as far as the wallet goes, i'm pretty sure several people have several copies of the wallet in source downloaded to their rigs for dev and testing purposes.

i'm down with multi-sig. as much as anyone else...

@fkinglag has been talking about setting up an "over-the-counter" GRC -> USD service as well. i have found code to do it on a few of our platforms, and intend to help him flesh it all out once legalities are observed. :)

don't know enough about smart contracts.

fuck DAOs. might as well say cloud storage.

I suppose we're going to have some discussion about the 'elephant that may no longer be in the room'?

Also there is a google docs spreadsheet that's been put together - Key Metrics of Blockchain Platforms ..

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k3NuIunynIsMVmIRKzSGozyho6WkjNlVLijKIQumn78/edit#gid=655798470

I'd like to see this made into a matrix which can be presented to the Gridcoin Community to help with decision making on upcoming changes.

Hangouts #050: Something Special?

Good idea .. I think we'll have to advertise it as much as possible to get a huge increase of users to go to it ..
