Grabbing a Meal and an Afternoon Beer at Dick’s Last Resort
For the #beersaturday challenge, initiated by @detlev, I wanted to share a few photos from one of our stops in Chicago, Illinois.
We took a 4-day mini vacation in order to visit the city for about 24 hours. It was a long drive there and back, my friends.
We went to a concert Thursday night and spent the next day walking around the city for about 5 hours. This calls for a beer!
We stopped at Dick’s Last Resort: A pub/restaurant that sits right above the Chicago River. There were countless restaurants in every direction! However, we chose to be insulted as we drank and dined!
Wikipedia sums up the atmosphere pretty well:
Dick's Last Resort teaches its servers to be obnoxious. In addition to the staff, the decor is considered to be "wacky". The restaurant uses picnic-style tables and no tablecloths. Patrons of Dick's are expected to be insulted, or placed in uncomfortable situations. Adult bibs and large, hand-made, paper hats are given to diners to wear during their stay. There are no napkins on the tables: they are generally thrown at the customers by the serving staff.
They offer a pretty wide selection of drinks. But after dropping about $60 on a few drinks each at The House of Blues the night before, we decided to drink cheap.
@jasonrussell and @sallyswitchblade ordered a PBR and I had a basic “big ol” Modelo in a 24oz can. Our server delivered our beers and said, “Here’s your stupid hipster beer and your big ass can of piss water.” I mean, he’s not wrong, lol! 😆
It was a fun little place to hang out and grab a beer and have some laughs at our own expense ;) The view was nice and the food was good and reasonably priced.

Haha… so PBR is hipster beer now?! Sounds like it would be an awesome place for a server or bartender to work. While in Chicago I sure hope you got a chance to try some pizza. Delicious!
Haha! Apparently so! I worked in food service for years when I was younger and I would have loved to be able to work in a place like that and just be a complete jerk for fun ;) When we walked in, he said “Just seat yourselves. It doesn’t matter where you sit, it’s all going to taste like shit anyway.” Lol!
We made it a point to have some Chicago pizza the night before. After a night of drinking and dancing, it was like heaven!
As a bartender, we all have days where we’d like to take off our smiles and toss turd balls at customers. Haha. That is probably the perfect time to eat Chicago pizza.
