Signs that you are expecting too much from yorself

in #self-esteem7 years ago

Expecting too much from yourself can and is damaging to your self-esteem and your overall wellbeing. It's good to have high standards, but it's important to be reasonable. Expecting too much from yourself can be associated like disappointment, burnout, anxiety, and depression, as well as low energy. It's therefore in your best to stop expecting too much from yourself, just know how much you are capable.

Here are some signs that you are expecting too much from yourself:

  • Perfectionism - when you setting standards that are unrealistic or unattainable, when you feeling that you're never good enough.
  • Not allowing yourself to do a mistakes -- expecting to get it everything the first time, or expecting to be good at everything you touch
  • Being very critical of yourself -- focusing too much on your imperfections and mistakes, when you are being hard on yourself, it is putting yourself down and you are overlooking your positives.
  • Setting goals according to other people expectations -- setting goals just because it is what's expected from another, without taking into account your own abilities, interests, and needs.
  • Pleasing people -- putting other people's needs before your own, try to please them, or trying to be everything to everyone or trying to please particular people.
  • Excessive comparison to other people -- focusing too much on what others are doing and comparison to others.
  • Taking on too much -- wanting to do everything and needing to be constantly busy, and you don't allowing yourself for rest, relaxation and leisure, cause burnout.
  • A constant need for achievement -- being dependent on achievements.

Expect to be 100% right all the time, expecting that you'll always be at your best way.

Yes, I certainly can relate to that. I think to have high standards for me, though, has more often than not it is beneficial
