YouTube Is Going Full Orwell!
YouTube is in MELTDOWN mode after many of their biggest contributors had videos de-monetized without any prior warning.
Strict new guidelines on content have meant only the most politically correct content can be used to generate income for YouTubes many celebrity vloggers. The changes happened without any prior warning and have left many users baffled, and outraged. Some have pointed out inconsistencies in the implementation of the changes, claiming that conservative opinions are facing much more scrutiny. In recent years, Twitter and Facebook have cracked down on controversial opinions and YouTube had been, until recently, celebrated as a bastion of Free Speech.
Philip DeFranco, arguably the platforms biggest ambassador, was not immune from the controversial changes.
Despite being very moderate and balanced in how he presents any political content, Philly D still got the smack down from the big Y.T. Bemused by the whole situation, Philip sarcastically acknowledges that he might not in future be able to refer to his fanbase as "beautiful bastards" anymore because it would be deemed "accessibly strong language" by YouTube and render his video un-monetizable.
Chris Ray Gun, was less subtle.
Posting a brutally sarcastic presentation, Chris intentionally breaks every one of the new guidelines, in protest at the new measures. This is sure to start a trend of protest videos, but it's unlikely to change anything. A hilarious watch nonetheless.
MrRepzion outlines a long list of his videos which have been de-monetized for not being "advertiser friendly".
MrRepzion, visibly agitated, goes into detail of around 50 videos which he is resubmitting for review. The controversial YouTuber often discusses issues surrounding mental health, child abuse, and is a fierce critic of political correctness.
Could this be an opportunity for Steemit?
YouTube is going "Full Orwell", but do contributors have an alternative? If only they knew about Steemit. While still in its infancy, bigger celebrities are able to earn thousands of dollars on each post. Imagine if Philip DeFranco shared his videos here, with some exclusive writing and audience interaction. Chi-ching! What do you think? Should we encourage more celebrities onto the platform here? Could Steemit be a saviour for those who wish to express their opinion, no matter how controversial it might be?

Absolutely. If only we could convince some of those bigger vloggers to give Steemit a chance. Imagine the rewards some of them could get here.
Not only that, but they would reach their current followers on other platforms and say "Hey give Steemit a chance." Which would also benefit everyone here.
Exactly. They could post YouTube vids here and get the best of both worlds. I've no doubt some of the more popular vloggers could make MORE money on Steemit than on YouTube. How to convince them though? I've already posted countless comments on YouTube videos about Steemit and they tend to fall on deaf ears.
That is the million dollar question. People are resistant to try new things sometimes. And absolutely, no doubt, they could make more money here than on YouTube
Smaller vloggers first maybe. If Phil De Franco joined SteemIt I wouldn't be surprised if the website went down instantly.

Yes, I imagine this news only effects the regular earners on YouTube, which would be in the minority, but its the principle of the thing that concerns me. YouTube has become a platform for a lot of alternative news sources.
I believe here will be the same some day in the future, until then we have to do our best to succeed!

I would be the first to criticise someone posting a YouTube video without any text, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to include YouTube videos alongside meaningful, original commentary. Your flag was your prerogative, though I'm curious why you singled me out among the myriad of people who post YouTube vids. Hmmm .. doesn't matter.

Youtube draws more viewership in prime-time than all major TV networks combined. The platform hosts an unbelievable amount of trash. I consume an immense amount of instructional-type geek videos on Youtube and I am worried for the people who do controversial builds that explode so well in slow motion :)
Youtube knows more a bout their users than Facebook and Twitter combined. Google gathers metrics across the entire Web. They have decided to apply Pareto on content they know FOR A FACT doesn't support their sustainability as a platform.
You have used examples of people who content jack other youtubers to create myth and drama. These channel are unfortunately popular but are of no value to Youtube in many ways.
But Youtube is not censoring these users, just quality checking them and providing a better experience to their advertizers. If one is to protest about this practice, they should start with promotional content on news platforms.
Some of the affected users, like DeFranco, have built actual real-world businesses bases on their brand. They will do just fine. Others, will not likely get anywhere. It seems like controversial Youtubers gather a lot of views but also have fan bases that seem to hate watch them and abuse them in the comments. It's weird. But, as an example, MrRepzion is threatening to go back to school over this, and posting about being fucked in the ass by Youtube on Gay PornHub... it seems he will have to call his own bluff and go back to school.
