Did anyone else in Northern Virginia see a Stealth Bomber fly over the area today?

Hey again, steemitizens!

One of my friends from my home town area up in Northern Virginia saw this and caught this excellent photo this afternoon. I live in North Carolina now, so I didn't get to see it myself.

It's a USAF B-2 Stealth Bomber. Did anyone else manage to catch a glimpse of it's fly over in that area? Catch any more photos? He only got this one. I teased, asking how did you manage to capture a photo of an "invisible" plane while driving on route 66?

He only laughed and said he has better equipment in his SUV than the feds have in their aircraft. ;D

Kind of cool to see these things fly, isn't it?

Here's what they look like close up, if case you have never seen one before.

Apparently, these can't even fly just by manual pilot control alone and can only stay aloft with massive amounts of computer aided control. I don't know if that's entirely true or not, but either way, it's amazing technology. I'm anti-war more or less, but I sure do appreciate nerdy high-tech engineering!

And with that, this post is finished. Full steem ahead, steemitizens!

Yours in steem success!

not so stealthy then is it :)

Haha exactly!

Only to radar...

Some guys i know in the Aerospace industry have mentioned the incredible amount of very impressive Tech stuffed into that craft. so cool to see such a good pic of it!

To be clear, my friend took the fuzzy distant top pic from his car. The second pic was USAF freedom of information act google gold :)

i got that. even a 'distant fuzzy pic' taken by a civilian is worth while. still looks good to me. kind of illustrates the scale of the craft to still pick up detail at that distance.

Absolutely! Amazing work, from a PHONE cam!

A Phone camera!. thats the part that really gets me, its even more impressive !

From a moving vehicle on the interstate, if I understood him correctly!

Your friend had great timing, im sure it wouldnt have been flying slowly! Thanks for showing us, let us know if you capture shots of anymore!

he said it was shockingly low and slow. My guess is a sports event, concert, or political thing in DC called for a flyby so he got lucky on timing indeed! Growing up in the DC area for my first 30 years (Northern Virginia) we saw this kind of stuff all the time, every time there was a football game, political thing or parade or whatever. Your tax dollars at work, assuming you pay US taxes that is. LOL

Ha, I am in little old New Zealand and have yet to see anything like that. The biggest we get is the old Hercules plane our "airforce" flies around on ocassion. So thanks for the opportunity to see one flying in real life. (So to speak)

Yeah maybe you don't have B-2's but you have Kia eating Keas! :D

Haha, that nearly made me spill my coffee! All else fails we can have an airforce of keas to send up to destroy incoming missiles!!
Hope they didnt destroy your Kia! And if they did I hope you got it in video!

Hehe, actually I had to look up something that flies in New Zealand and got lucky on something hilarious on my first search result lol. And never spill your coffee kid, that's a mortal sin! I survive on coffee, cigarettes and steem!

Well you hit the nail in the head with that one! I did say 'nearly' spill my coffee and fully agree coffee not in a cup or in my mouth is a mortal sin. Keep on steeming @sircork (as well as smoking and drinking )

<air quotes> TOP SECRET </air quotes> lol - good thing Russia can't see youtube hahahahaha

i think they do...

yeah, I forgot to engage the sarcasm font ;)

They base out Mid Missouri

That stuff weirds me out a little, in Texas, about a year ago I started hearing a jet, this thing was so low, small, loud and fast, it passed over my house and I could hear it 10 minutes later as it moved past.
I just thought about some small country we might be bombing and how awful it would be to hear stuff like that or see jets like the one in the pic flying around my town...that aside it is wild looking..

Low and slow helicopters are what freak me out. I live in weed growing country on 17 acres in the North Carolina mountains. That's all I will say about that ;)

helicopters are freaky too, yea all over the mts. from Polk to Madison county they're out looking for brightly colored "weeds", I use to live out that way, they use to find "weeds" growing everywhere, think most have moved indoors, which is a shame, weeds loved that same soil/weather in the region, just like tobacco.

My undisclosed location (lol) is in McDowell county, 30 or 40 miles east of Asheville. Our dirt grows "things" real well. Heard it from a friend. ;)

I know "Mac"Dowell well, a former Buncombe Gal, A-ville got too big and tooooo expensive, headed to Texas. i do miss that scenic trip up thru lil'Switzerland, hope you have good weather conditions for gardening! I do miss that little soft serve ice cream place, sorta near the school, west side of Marion, yum!

That ice cream place is less than a mile from now now LESS undisclosed location LOL, and I hate asheville it's full of poseurs and smells of patchouli everywhere. Reminiscent of my days following the dead around in the 80s and 90s when I was a younger dude. Times I left behind because, they were full of poseurs and smelled like patchouli lol ;)

And say MAC dowell, confirms your legitimacy for sure! I've lived all over the country, landed here about 4 years ago when my RV broke down. Ended up buying 17 acres and staying hehe. Oh well, go where the wind blows until it stops blowing, I guess?

I was at an airshow a few years back and a B-2 did a flyover. It was pretty impressive.
It's interesting where the idea for these comes from. At the end of WW2, the Germans had built 2 operational flying wings, one of which crashed during testing. The Americans got ahold of one of the only remaining plains after the war ended, and it was incomplete. They brought it back to the U.S. and built several different configurations of flying wings, all to limited success. The B-2 is what evolved from all of that.

True story!
