Agareum is an online cryptocurrency gaming platform where users can play against each other and earn different coins and tokens based on their performance. Agareum is a so-called gamedrop platform. It is a gaming version of an airdrop where users have to battle each other in an arena.

The arena represents a petri dish and the characters in the game are cells. The aim of the game is to absorb other cells and accumulate points, watching out for different obstacles like viruses or other stronger and bigger cells.

The rules are very simple: Eat or Be Eaten and remember! Don't forget to Fill Your Bags!

After the initial registration and login process where you have to enter a valid email address and password, you can immediately play the game. At the moment there is only one game mode called Token Death Match. Each round lasts 5 minutes and the maximum number of players that can play is 50 per round. Each round has 2500 tokens that the players can collect. As the platform develops new game modes will be introduced with new and exciting features. The upcoming game modes are:

FFA (free for all)
Last Cell Standing
Speed Feast
Team Attack

How Do I Play the Game?

Begin by entering your in-game nickname on the main menu. Select Token Death Match among the options under Game Mode and select a skin to use. Make sure you also click on the skin you want otherwise it will not be selected. Are you ready for the battle?

Each round is played with 30+ players.If there aren't enough players you may need to wait a couple of minutes for new cells to be formed ;-) Just be patient. I have played many rounds and never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes. Click on Play Now and get ready for 5 very exciting minutes!

You can find those scattered around in the arena. Collect as many as you can. The point of the game is to collect as many Agareum tokens as possible.

The small pellets should be consumed to increase the size of your own cell.

Every time you eat a pellet your cell size will increase by one point. Read below to understand why size matters on the Agareum battlefield.

Eat the cells that are smaller than you and avoid those that are +20% bigger than your cell.

If you get eaten by a larger cell you will lose most of the acquired tokens and you will only be allowed to keep 10% of the tokens you have won. If you eat another cell you will get 50% of their tokens and points to add to your tally.

You can use the Space Bar on your keyboard to split the size of your cell that will then be thrown forward to attack other cells.

After 30 seconds your cells will be merged again. You can have a total of 10 cells in the game. This is a good attack method if you have a hard time consuming a faster cell. Just remember that your cell has to be bigger than the cell you are trying to eat.

You can reduce the mass of your cell pressing the W key on your keyboard in situations that require more speed.

Avoid the green spiky cells. Those are viruses.

Consuming a virus will reduce the size of your cell but this can only happen if the cell is bigger than the virus. The viruses can be used as a shield against other threats. If you are in danger you can hide behind them and protect yourself against bigger cells.

The Game Screen

The in-game screen shows your score for the current round. There are 3 things for you to keep an eye on:

Round Tokens

This is the total amount of tokens that you collected during the active round. If your cell gets eaten you keep only 10% of the collected Round Tokens.

Tokens Keep

These are the tokens that you will keep in the active round. They will be transferred to your wallet after you finish the round.

Game Leaderboard

A leaderboard that shows the top 10 players that are currently playing the game. If you collect a lot of tokens you will likely see your name on this list.

On the main menu > options you can see the main Leaderboard for the game. It shows daily, weekly, monthly and all-time stats.

Impressions and Final Thoughts:

The game can lag for a few seconds and slow down from time to time due to some optimization issues. When that happens, it is not possible to influence the movement of your cell and it can lead to points being lost. This is something that the developers will surely improve in future updates.

I have tested the game both on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. My experience is that the game lags more on Mozilla Firefox and runs better on the Chrome browser. If you experience issues with the game lagging close any open browser window and other applications you are not using when you are playing the game.

Another tip to improve the correct movement of your cell is to not make too big movements with your computer mouse. Move the mouse in a short, precise and controlled manner. Make sure that the cursor always stays inside the platform when you move it from left to right and up and down. Otherwise, your cell will not stop when you want it to or move in a different direction.

Agareum has created an interesting way to collect tokens. A fun and easy game that everyone can play. The rules are easy to understand and you can get straight to the action after registering your account. The game is simple but addictive. Initially, I planned to test it out just once and move on to other things. I ended up playing 21 rounds on the first day. I would prefer that the game had some sounds and music but even without it I keep finding excuses to go back to another Token Death Match.
