Tuesday Tutorial: Drawing basics #2 "Shapes"
Tuesday Tutorial: Drawing basics #2 "Shapes"
Basic shapes, as circles, squares and triangles are the basic forms with which you can theoretically build every other form from every point of view (form above or form the base). So they are very important to manage. But we will see more deeply how to build a good confidence in managing 3f forms in a closed future. For the moment let's start training and acquiring "the hand" playing with simple and funny shapes!
Shapes tells you something
This is a very important principle when you want to express something by drawing it (and untill you are drawing you are expressing something): we learn from what surrounds us. Especially frome the nature, since almost everything is inspired by nature. So what does nature tell us with his shapes? To discover it we have at first to simplify things from theirs actual forms in to basics forms. For example: a rocky mountain --> triangle; a hill --> semi circle; Jimmy Hendrix's head --> circle; Trump's head --> ~.... and so on!
So what you finally can see is that basically, and almost ever, as humans we consider triangular, sharp form dangerous. We consider circular and soft form more safer instead. Just think about animals: what scary you the most, a shark's teeth or a sheep theet? Anyway... I'll never put a hand in a sheep mouth!
This is the reason you can see road signs in some different forms!
Body shapes
Considering this, we can now build some different "body types".
Just try to remember some of the famous heroes or villains: what shapes did the creators choose to build the characters? Which physical features distinguish the character?
Just remember that any form, a triangle or a circle, may tent to have some opposite shape features in it! For example triangle may have rounded corners.
Here we are! Now it's your turn to build a character with phyiscal features! Remember that one of the pillars in drawing is: PRACTICE! Don't be afraid to try your character and post it with #airdrawingjourney

Fabulous lesson....amazing what's around us when we're not trained to see it....thanks for sharing...
Thanks! That's true! When you start to think in "shapes" you begin to see some things differently :)
