Granulomas are chronic bacterial infection [inflammatory reactions] characterized by accumulation of activated macrophages, this usually have epitheloid appearance, epitheloid cells resembles epithelial cells and they appear to adhere to each other.

Granulomas appears as a collection of cells with bubbly or foamy cytoplasm, they may have a reactive germinal centre, they may also present some features of necrosis when they are infectious.

Leprosy is one of the most mysterious granuloma scientifically defined. It is also the world's oldest recorded disease:

Thus it's is accorded a religious origin as a penalty for sins.
It has a traditional social implication as the individuals suffering from this infection are isolated from others so as to prevent the spread of the infection as the causative agent [Mycobacterium Leprae] is a very infectious one. Surprisingly, this practice has already been in place, even before the scientific definition of this disease and it's form.

There is an alarming rise in the number of affected individuals as Africa is one of the continents with the greatest number of reported cases and Nigeria being indexed as the country with the greatest number of leprosy patients worldwide.

Armadillos are reported to be the major biological carrier of this deadly disease, this is because their body temperature is optimal for the survival of the bacteria which is heat labile and grows best at temperatures of 32-340c. This can be transmitted to humans by eating undercooked Armadillo meat, but Armadillos are not naturally a carrier of this infection as it is transferred to it my humans! Armadillos are also not found in Africa; about 250,000 individuals are currently recorded to be affected by the leprosy plague; only about 150-250 Americans are affected, but America is the Armadillos' origin and major habitat.
These statistics would shift the blame of the widespread of this infection from the Armadillos which even rare creatures.

Leprosy prevalence in Africa is greatly due to lack of adequate attention to the disease as reported cases are treated with conspicuous negligence and the isolation practice is handled with corruption and little importance ;the fight against leprosy in Africa have since been taken over by Non-Governmental Organizations as the government seem less functional.

Even though the Nigerian government launched a 5-years National Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer strategic plan in 2016,very little changes have been witnessed as many cases have gone unreported and the spread is on the increase. This calls for a worldwide attention as this spread would probably exceed the shores of Nigeria and Africa at large!.
