With confidence I was sited at @Air-clinic HIV center, waiting for my test result, ‘negative of course is what the result will be’, I thought to myself. Finally, I was called to the counselling room, and ….
My name is John, am 22. I grew up in a small town located in an unknown space in Sagamu, Ogun State. When I was growing, health educators taught that HIV/AIDS can only be contacted through sex and the ABC of HIV/AIDS (Abstinence, Be faithful, Condom) has always been on my mind. Well, my parents have always imbibed in me the value of total abstinence and up till this moment I am yet to experience sex.
‘Have you ever been tested?’ said @adoore-eu, the counsellor. ‘No’, I replied, then she asked me what if I tested positive to HIV, what I would do. ‘I can’t be positive, how would I have contacted HIV,’ I said. Then she took me through the educating process and readjusted my thinking and asked if I ever shared sharp objects with others or been a recipient of blood through transfusion. It struck me, I could be positive, I do not have my personal clipper for barbing, I do not hesitate to use razor blades that are neither new nor mine.
She dropped the bomb, oh no, positive it is! Then and there, I felt like the entire world was crashing down on me, instant depression came. How would I tell my parents? My mom could run mad. Oh, how do I convince them it was not through sex? How will people look at me? Would my friends still play with me? I will begin to look thin and pale and sickly. I would never enjoy sex without the fear of spreading HIV. Where do I go from here? Which suicide is best and less painful? All of these ran sporadically through my mind while the counsellor was talking. I just wish I could open my eyes and it was all but a dream. Me, HIV positive, Unbelievable!
Well, I got help @Air-clinic specialists through counselling. Now I live as healthy as I could through anti-retroviral drugs. I live a normal life!

Nice write up.im still yet to get myself to go for the test .lol.i use my partner as a check cause he goes donates blood regurlarly.
It's not safe to do that though. It's advisable to get yourselves tested

How #air-clinic is conducting HIV test? I have no idea about this.
Seems like the ABC of HIV/AIDS teaching is inadequate and need to be updated.
@air-clinic can give you direction to the center nearest to you so as to get tested and answer any question you have...
And of course health educators need to be more accommodating to other means of contacting HIV
