AIR CLINIC WRITING CONTEST : Mosquitoes and the African Man

Little James couldn't hold his excitement as he patiently waited for his grandpa to finish up with his food. He had been super excited when his mother had announced that they will be spending the holidays at grandpa's house in Nigeria and so on their way from the state all he thought of was the beautiful stories grandpa will tell before him and his parents will go back.

Baba looked from the corner of his eyes and smiled when he noticed his grandson was sitting close to him, he knew what the boy wanted and so he decided not to keep him waiting anymore.

"Alright son, it's story time" baba said and immediately little James face bright up with a smile.

"Which story are you going to tell me today baba?" little James asked..

"hmm let's see.. How about mosquitoes and the African man" baba continued

You see my son, the African continent is a huge hive for Mosquitoes! Why? Most of Africa is in the equatorial zone of the world. Hence the weather is warm enough for mosquito breeding.

"But things weren't always this way, it all started after a mosquito killed a prince.." Baba paused and looked at James to make sure he was following..

Once upon a time, humans and mosquitoes lived peacefully among themselves but something happened. The prince of the mosquitoes was ill and needed the blood of a human prince to get well. The mosquitoes pleaded with the human king who refused. Not wanting his son to die, the mosquitoes went at night and took some blood from the human prince while he was asleep and the next morning, he became ill and died due to the fact that there wasn't any cure for malaria then.

When the human King found out, he declared war against the mosquitoes and that is why till date we are still trying to kill the mosquitoes and they are still trying to bite us" baba finished his story but little James was already asleep.
