DRUG ABUSE A YOUTH DESTINY KILLER A CONTEST HELD BY AIR-CLINIC

"I don't want to die" were the last words whispered by Amy Winehouse the Night before she was found dead in her north London home in 2007. She was only 27. A multiple Grammy winner, her life was plagued by a dark history of drink problem and heroine abuse, towards her nearing her final days on earth she was merely a shadow of her former self.

Drug Abuse is a bane of the 21st century society, increasingly too many youths have succumbed to its iron grip. it fills one with gloom to realize that so many more are on tow in this very dangerous line. To understand drug abuse, it is pertinent to clarify the concept of "drug". A drug is a substance used as a medication or in the preparation of medication. Drug abuse on the other hand, is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others. Drugs are mostly abused for their narcotic elements,and sometimes how easily accessible they are.
Nigerian youths have mastered the art of abusing drugs. They have become so adept at the use and discovery of new drugs that a dystopian song titled " science students" describes how these chemicals are being mixed together". While this song may seem normal its a song released from a pained spirit which reflects just how much drugs have become a problem in our society. Today, Tramadol has been so abused that so many young people cannot steady their nerves anymore without "popping" at least some 500mg. Meanwhile, this same tramadol has been said that the safest dosage of tramadol daily should not exceed 250mg. Codiene, also known for its narcotic feeling or suffice to say "sleepy feeling" has been so much abused that a whole bottle which is supposed to be used in line with prescription of a doctor can be downed by youths in one sitting. The smell of marijuana filling our noses have become a recurring decimal, gone were the days when only garage touts and the most hardened touts and social misfits smoked it, today its being smoked or even eaten raw by teenagers as young as 16. The question is why? The high feeling or ecstatic effect of this drug puts one on a pedestal and sometimes elevated mood often gotten at its use has been what draws many. However what many don't know that its a dance with the devil and if there's one thing about a dance with the devil, it is that it lasts forever. The aftermath is often deadlier, tramadol in excess have been known to cause seizures, excessive sweating , nervousness and even death in 2016 a brilliant 200level student of a prestigious Nigerian university lost her life to excessive dose of tramadol.

Alas, drugs is ruining this beautiful plane called life, youths now seek the easy escape to life's challenges by getting high instead of facing it head on, youths have lost touch of their power, we rarely hear of youths spearheading scientific breakthrough instead we now have a new generation of "science students", So many glorious destinies now made wreck of, so many illustrious careers now sixfeet beneath ground. Alas we are a generation whose destiny seems to have been lost. Alas we were the generations which reminds of john Milton's Paradise lost.
