AIR-CLINIC WRITING CONTEST: A MOTHER'S LABOUR.

in #air-clinic7 years ago

Vera was exhausted, she had worked all day long and needed rest. Unfortunately, said rest was not achievable...she had the children to think of.

"If only they could understand and just sleep instead of playing and asking questions my tired brain can't even process," she thought. She was close to tears by the time they fell asleep.

She sat down heavily on the only chair in the one room apartment she could afford to rent. She fell asleep thinking of her dead husband, wishing he was still alive to help her take care of the children.

She woke up with a start when power supply was restored barely 40 minutes after. She had about eight articles to submit for the blog she worked for.

Her head aching, eyes gritty from insufficient sleep, she plugged in her laptop and began typing till daybreak.

She would prepare her children for school and head over to teach in four different schools where she works part-time as a diction teacher. That wasn't all, she also had two home lesson jobs which she attends to before heading home everyday.

All this in the city of Lagos in the bid to make ends meet.

Vera lives in my street and it is obvious her stressful lifestyle is telling on her. She always looks worn-out.
She says she knows she is stressed but she can't do anything about it. Bills have to be paid.

My advice to her would be;

  • She should work smart. Two jobs can pay better than 6 different jobs if you can play your cards well.
  • She should know her limits and should not exceed it.
  • Exercise regularly...it would do her good.
  • Take out time to relax. This is important.

I believe following those guidelines would help her if she doesn't want to collapse one day from exhaustion. What benefit would it be then to the children she claims to be working for? The question is, would she listen?

I like the first advice.
Sometimes we work too hard but don't succeed because we aren't applying wisdom. So it's better to work hard and smart.
Good tale.
