NATURAL VISION IMPROVEMENT: HEALTHY FRUITS AND FOOD FOR EYE HEALTH

Been a while I was here on Health Talk.

Today's health talk will be on Vision Improvement (THE EYES), It is one of the important parts of our body which happen to be a sense organ. The Eyes is that important part of the human body responsible for sight, Without the eyes, nothing can be Sighted or Seen. It is the most important organ for communication.

Truly, The brain is very important to the body and it never stops working until death, The heart and every other part of the body are also important but can you just imagine living without EYES.

YEAH!!!

Some people were born without EYES and some were born with it but it has never been useful to them because they don't see anything with it. The glaring truth is that most people that have theirs functioning well don't spare a little thought on this important sense organ, they believe the eyes will continue working 100% fine. They don't see this sense organ as important to give little attention to because they think Sight problem is an inevitable result of old age.

Living a healthy life as a person may help eliminate all diseases associated with the eyes or reduce the risk of Eye problems.

How then can we Improve Our Vision Naturally?

We have medical ways of taking care of the eyes but when we eat foods and fruits that can aid our Vision improvement, we may be needing little or no medical care. For the benefit of this post, I will be highlighting few of them.

HEALTHY FOODS AND FRUITS FOR EYE HEALTH

Before mentioning foods and fruits, we need to know the nutrient contained in those food and fruits that may be useful for our eye health, Some of them are:

  • Omega 3 Fatty Acid
  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Lutein
  • Zeaxanthin

A balanced diet is mostly recommended for healthy eyes, this involves the consumption of food containing all classes of food eg proteins, fruits, dairy, vegetable e.t.c.

Incorporating a different kind of healthy food for consumption and staying away from unhealthy processed food is a good way of staying healthy. Here are some of the foods and fruits useful for NATURAL VISION IMPROVEMENT.

  • CITRUS FRUITS:

Citrus fruits are a good source of Vitamin C which is key for vision improvement (EYE HEALTH), They are mainly three species of citrus fruits which are:

  • Citron
  • Pummelo and
  • Mandarin Oranges

Citrus fruits also include our common lime, grapefruits, lemon, tangelo, sweet oranges etc. Many people love the taste of Citrus fruits, and it is beneficial to both adult and kids, so getting them in our daily diet may not be a problem. They are rich in Vitamin C, helps boost the immune system and improve eye health.

  • FISH:

A good source of Omega 3 fatty acid are Fishes, Many fish contain Omega 3 fatty acid which when consumed helps to boost the health of our eyes. Below are some of the fishes that contain the most useful amount of omega 3 fatty acid for vision improvement:

  • Tuna fish
  • Mackerel
  • Sardines
  • Salmon
  • Trout

In some studies, it is concluded that oily fish contains higher levels of Omega 3 fatty acid, these are fish that have oil in their guts and body tissue.

  • CARROT:

When I was small, Elders and mothers usually tell us to eat more carrot, that it helps us see clearly, I wonder if they were scientist and how they got to know that carrot is good for our EYE.

Luckily this advise is so true, Carrot is very beneficial to our EYE among all eye improving food and fruits, It contains a great amount Vitamin A pro-compound beta-carotene which can be technically referred to as Vitamin A even though it surpasses it in some few ways. Beta-Carotene is however converted to Vitamin A by the body, reducing potential adverse effect. Sweet potato is another related food that contains beta-carotene and also a good source of Vitamin E

  • EGG:

Egg is another vision improving food that should be consumed often, It is an excellent source of lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C & E, and zinc. A lot of people are scared of egg yolks effect, containing cholesterol which may cause our body some damages but Eye problems is also life-threatening.

Most of the useful nutrient in egg is contained in the yolk, even though, we are scared of eating egg due to cholesterol, we can always take half of the yolk to be on the safer side, because consuming egg helps you reduce the risk of age-related sight problems such as AMD (Age-Related Macular Deterioration).

  • LEAFY VEGETABLES:

We have a lot of vegetables and some of them are very useful for eye health when consumed because of the nutrient they contain. These vegetables include KALE, BROCCOLI, SPINACH e.t.c.

KALE

Kale is a vegetable from the family of cabbage, rich in lots of nutrient including many phytochemicals helpful for our eye health, amongst these phytochemical, are lutein and zeaxanthin which are super beneficial to our vision improvement, prevents AMD(Age-Related Macular Deterioration) and lower the risk of cataract. The consumption of this vegetable is very important because some of this nutrient cannot be made by our body.

BROCCOLI

Broccoli is another vegetable rich in fiber and many other phytocompounds that helps lower the impact of oxidation damage on the eye. READ MORE ABOUT BROCOLLI from my previous POST. Broccoli is a good source of Vitamin B2(riboflavin), it reduces inflammation resulting from light damage, and its deficiency can lead to cataract development.

SPINACH

Similar to kale, spinach in rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, the two most important anti-oxidants for eye health. These compounds act as a natural shield to UV light, helping prevent damage and absorbing blue light that could damage the retina.Source.

We also have other sight helping edibles such as:

  • Olive Oil
  • Tomatoes
  • Blueberries
  • Pistachio Nuts
  • Beef
  • Sweet Potatoes

CONCLUSION

Giving little time and attention to some part of our body is a risky venture. All the above-listed edibles are good for vision improvement if consumed often or added to our daily diet. One or more of these food/fruit are close to us and can be easily gotten for consumption, consuming them is halfway to having a Healthy EYE. Take good care of your EYES, Eat healthy food and have a healthy life.
