in #air-clinic6 years ago

Hello Air-Clinicians & Friends,

It's a beautiful morning and about time for us to examine our ideologies. This is the 32nd episode of ACPF where we give our followers/ members the opportunity to contribute to trending and useful health-related topics.

Public Health Forum is an opportunity for anyone interested to bring solutions to common healthcare problems of general concern especially now that AIR-CLINIC could possibly extend its tentacles offline. Your opinion matters to us all!

Last week, we discussed "

SHOULD HOSPITALS BE ALLOWED TO REFER PATIENTS AT ANY TIME?

It made quite an interesting discussion as people shared a lot of suggestions for @air-clinic and their expectations. We appreciate the input of the following persons who dropped their meaningful opinion and well-thought contributions

On the Topic of this Week...

This month some four years ago was a time in the history of Nigeria that would not be forgotten in a jiffy. It was the period where the deadly viral outbreak of Ebola was on rampage in some of the countries of Africa off course, Nigeria inclusive. An angel in the human form, Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh of blessed memories stood her grounds in preventing a man who was heavily laden with the virus to leave the hospital where where she worked, in the process, she got infected with the virus and later died.

Till forever, Nigerians are grateful to her for being a woman of selflessness who prevented the outbreak of Ebola from spreading to other parts of Nigeria in 2014.

A lot was said following the events after then, many people reacted in different ways. This leaves us to consider today's topic, Should Doctors Risk Their Lives for thier Patients?

We like you all to say or drop your thoughts, advise, memoirs and opinion about this topic.

Every comment gets a good Upvote.

We expect your candid opinions on this topic!

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

This leaves us to consider today's topic, Should Doctors Risk Their Lives for thier Patients?.
It should be their instead of thier.

When I was in the hospital taking Chemotheraphy for Leukemia, I had so many blood transfusions I can't even remember the count. I made friends with a male doctor who was doing his Housemanship as a House officer (or whatever it is called).

At a point I was badly in need of blood and my relatives could not donate because they were maxed out and needed to rejuvenate. This Doctor volunteered to donate blood for me (we were a match). Till today I am entirely grateful for that gesture

Having said that, I also understand that it is difficult to be attached to patients so much that you sacrifice your own life for them. I personally still think it is going too far, even though I have been a beneficiary

Truth be told we cannot save everybody, and doctors are humans with their own needs just like us. It is unfair to expect so much from them all the time

I believe we all risk our lives daily, in a sense. Doctors stand at the fence where they are not necessarily obliged to, but sometimes it feels like the right thing to do - unlike security agents who are paid for that purpose.

I don't believe there is a universal answer to the question, it is a matter of perspectives and perhaps the nature of cases involved

Left for me. My own opinion is that doctors who think they have the grace to sacrifice their lives for a patient should do that. The bible made us to understand that to Love a friend means you are able to sacrifice anything for him/her. But most times doctors should everything they can to safe a soul, experimenting with their body could be a last option. May Grace fill us all. Amen
