Who really OWNS the economy of AFRICA - Concluding because of the Steinhoff's accounting scandal

in #africa7 years ago

Hi Steemit, its been a while. Compliments of the new year and hope everyone is back and continuing to provide us with valuable information thus growing this wonderful platform.

This a continuation from:

I know I promised to provide Part 3 and 4 of "Who really OWNS the economy of AFRICA", but during the time I have been off Steemit there has been a lot of developments with regards to my blog especially "Part 2".

In Part 2 of my discussion I focused on Christo Wiese who has shares within Steinhoff International Holdings as seen below.

Well according to CNBC Africa:

Steinhoff’s top shareholder Christo Wiese initially stepped into the executive post, but abruptly resigned as chairman and de facto CEO last week.
Four current and former managers are under suspicion of overstating revenues at subsidiaries, prosecutors have said.
The company has previously said the investigation related to whether revenues were booked properly, and whether taxable profits were correctly declared.

Since then Steinhoff Africa has been investigated:

Steinhoff’s African business is preparing to repay $1.2 billion it owes to its parent, it said on Friday, a move that would go a long way to plugging a liquidity hole in the group fighting for survival in the wake of an accounting scandal.

Unfortunately that scandal came at a very heavy price which saw the Share Price of Steinhoff plummeting down to its lowest levels in many years.

Despite this price drop, many of my friends are jumping to buy the company shares with the hope of them going up again.

Until I have the full story of the investigation and results I will not continue with other parts of the blog.

I have made a conclusion to focus on technology and travelling topics for this year
