This is the first blog where I am sharing my expertise in running an AdWords campaign for websites.

Google AdWords is a marketplace where companies pay to have their website ranked at the top of a search results pages based on keywords. By showing your website on top of Google searches, you can attract people that are searching for products or services that you are offering which can ultimately generate a sale for your business.

Let's say you own a pizza house in Melbourne and somebody is searching for "pizza delivery" in Google

The first thing you see on Google searchers are ADS which works using GOOGLE ADWORDS. If you are dominos.com.au, you are ranking #1 for "pizza delivery" search in Google. Using a compelling ad copy, it lets you entice your target audiences to order online using a promo offer that is your unique value proposition against your competitors.

PRO Tip: AdWords works as an auction and it lets people bid money for clicks but the highest bid doesn't always win as Google combines money factor with the quality factor in order to create the best experience for the Google's users.

QUALITY ADS + STRONG BID = HIGH ADVANTAGE IN ADWORDS

Let's dig deeper and know how to use Google AdWords

First things first, we need to start off with the basics that way everyone will be on the same page.

I listed down some of the basic terms that you need to know:

  • Campaign is a set of ad groups composed of ads, keywords, and bids that share a budget, location targeting, and other settings.

Each campaign consists of one or more ad groups, a budget, language and location settings, distributions settings for Google Network and other settings.

You can run multiple campaigns at any time from your Google account.

  • AD GROUP is a set of keywords, ads, and bids that lets you organize and segment targeting into themes.

  • KEYWORD is a word or phrase that a user searches for in Google.com as it will help you control where and when your ad will appear.

PRO Tip: When choosing your keywords, always think like your customer and what they would be searching for when they want your product, service and offer

  • QUALITY SCORE is a measurement of how relevant your ads, keywords and landing page to a person seeing your ad. Google grades keywords' Quality Score from - to 10. The higher your keyword's quality score the better your ad position and the lower the cost to pay per click.

  • BID it is also called Maximum CPC Bid. It is a number that you set to determine the highest amount that you are willing to pay for a click on your ads. If someone clicks your ads, that click won't cost you more than the maximum Cost-Per-Click Bid (or Max CPC) that you set.
  • CLICK happens when a user interactions with your ad by clicking on it. It shows an intention to visit your website and learn more about what you are offering.

  • IMPRESSIONS is a measurement of how many times your ads are shown in Google searches.

  • AD RANK is the value that's used to determine where your ads show up on a page. It is based on your Quality Score and your Bid amount.

  • AVERAGE POSITION is a metric shows how your ad ranks against other ads. This determines the order in which ads appear on a page.

  • AD COPY is made up of different elements but refers to the main text of a clickable advertisement. It is generally a form of marketing communication that advertisers can use to promote products or services on Google Searchers.

-- Part 2 of this Guide will talk about Ad Copies and how to create a compelling ad copy that converts... :)

  • CONVERSION is an action when someone clicks on your ad and completes a desired action such as a purchase or sign up or phone call. Conversions are defined by the advertisers to track valuable actions that are related to business sales and revenue.
