“What advice would you give to a new Steemit user?” - 4 Influential Steemit Users Give Their Answers

in #advice7 years ago (edited)

Valuable advice from Steemit users who are rocking it!

The Steemit community is incredible because of the people who make up the community.

I have been blessed over the last few weeks by many people, but there are 4 Steemians that have stood out in my mind.

So I asked each of them a question, "What advice would you give to a new Steemit user?"

I want to share with you their answers, but also tell you why they are influential to me.

I started following @shenanigator because of a common interest.

@shenanigator and I are both interested in silver. On one of my first days
on Steemit, I came across one of his posts entitled My Silver Delivery
Came With A Nice Suprise
.

When I asked @shenanigator, “What advice would you give to a new
Steemit user?”, this is what he said:

Come to give not take.
Find users that need help on projects and do what you can to help them.
You’ll make friends and friends means upvotes. Also, use the same
philosophy when you apply the 2nd method:

Engage! Engage! Engage!
Read peoples' posts, leave thoughtful comments, and engage in
meaningful interactions. This will make you friends and it will get you
followers. Followers don't mean a darn thing if they're inorganic (like follow
for follow). But, getting organic followers will result in more upvotes.

I started following @reddust because of she consistently posts and is consistently engaging your followers.

@reddust has given me something to look forward to. I know that almost every day @reddust is going to create a fun, unique post. We don’t have a lot in common, but that is apart of the fun. I really that @reddust engages
with her audience. That is really important to me as a new steemit user.

When I asked @reddust, “What advice would you give to a new
Steemit user?”, this is what she said:

Focus on networking and building a quality brand name, which is you, not your posts. Here on Steemit, like in the 3D world, it's who you know, who you are, and your work that matters.

Lots of really good people who write or make quality art and articles will be left behind in earnings if they do not network with whales and guilds through collaborative work, but I’d rather go it alone because I've never trusted groups or people of power. They always address their concerns first and foremost.

I started following @kaylinart because of the way she write her articles.

@kaylinart can write full-out sarcasm one post and then pull you in with heart-felt emotion in the next. The various ways that @kaylinart writes keeps her blog relevant and intriguing.

When I asked @kaylinart, “What advice would you give to a new
Steemit user?”, this is what she said:

When you are starting on Steemit, It's definitely not easy. You have to put in a lot of work to get noticed.

It's important to use a high quality RECTANGLE Photo for the top of your post, And learn Markup Language if you don't know it.

When you first start off, the numbers on your post shouldn't matter. You should focus on creating good content consistently. And building up your followers. In the early months of me joining Steemit, I didn't write much. Instead I commented on lots of other posts. I tried to build up relationships with everyone I could on the platform. As a minnow that is one of the best things you can do!

Great post. There is definitely a learning curve with Steemit and the best way to help alleviate this is to engage and ask questions. This platform is incredible in the fact that most members are more than willing to go out of their way to help new members. A couple members that come immediately to mind are @exyle and @worldclassplayer. Both of their blogs provide tons of great information for the new user and I learn more about Steemit and crypto every day from following their work.

@orionschariot, thanks for sharing about two of your steemit influencers. We do indeed have a great community!

I was so blunt! Haha, I can't believe you posted my comment, I agree with @kaylinart, formatting is very important, @timcliff has the big picture down pat like a good architect should, and @shenanigator regarding cultivating quality followers. I'm humbled to be included with these 3 very savvy creative writers/marketers.

Thank you and best wishes to everyone who strives to be the best they can be and share their gifts with compassion.

@reddust, sorry if I took you off guard. You have been very kind to me and I know that what you have to offer will help a lot of people.

Blunt is not always bad. You have experiences and knowledge that need to be shared. Thank you for letting me be apart of that process!

(hugs) You are welcome!

blunt is fine and in fact refreshing

@reddust, I wanted to add a little bit more. Something I heard from your answer to my question is that not all paths lead to success for all Steemit users.

You started down a path that seemed good at the time, then faced a challenging situation as a result. Instead of giving up, you decided to find a new path and continue your journey. I personally need that message.

That's true, we reach forks in our road or the path ends in a dead end and we have to retrace our steps and continue on. I've learned a lot about myself when I reached a dead end, the forks in the road still freaks me out. What if I don't notice the fork in the road? Your kindness reminds me to be kind, that's something I have to work on all the time. I tend towards indifference which is a dead end path I found long ago.

This is awesome! Thanks for the info. I will be looking at your links. Thanks from a minnow!
Keep steemin!

Thanks for the comment @jakeimnotshure! Keep pressing on!

excellent advice I will be keeping a lot of this in mind especially the importance of networking going forward with contributing to this community. But its the same in the world outside of the internet as well. You can be extremely talented as a musician, an artist etc. But if you don't have the drive to find the right people to help acknowledge and support you, you will never be noticed and rewarded for it like you deserve. wonderful post thanks for recommending it @karencarrens

@barrysamways, I am glad you enjoyed the article. Networking is so important. If we don;t have anyone to engage with our future posts then it is very hard as we start writing consistently. One of the best ways to build an audience in to engage people who are writing posts. As you authentically engage them then start to follow you.

Appreciate this one, good to hear a diferent perspective, jumping into the Steemit sea there are TON of metrics that can pull focus for a newbie :)

@dayleeo, I completely agree. There are so many bells and whistles to look at. It is nice to be reminded to return back to people.

Just by answering my question you can tell that these 4 Steemit influencers practice quality engagement. That is what made me follow them!

Always always PEOPLE FIRST

Por esto y muchas cosas mas me siento muy contenta y estimulada de formar parte de la comunidad steemit.

Bienvenido a steemit!

@sumatranate nice post. There is one interesting thing about internet, whatever you say or post is forever.
This is a lesson to learnt that we have to be honest and be ourselves in any situation we find ourselves because you can never know wheere your message will be preach. Steem(it) on.

One💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

I agree. We have to be ourselves. When we are authentic and engage others, we will be able to attract followers.

Wow. Amazing post. Everything you mentioned was so important. I resteemed. This is a must read for everyone.

Thanks @karencarrens! So glad you enjoyed the article and thanks for resteeming.

nice post @sumatranate, I am a big fan as well of some of these bloggers and like that each really values authentic engagement in the form of building relationships, and thoughtful content! Without those 2 values, we are nothing here on steemit .

@natureofbeing, I completely agree. Steemit will fail if either the relationship or the content fail.

We all have to work hard to maintain quality with both.

Very useful what you've put together here @sumatranate; there's a lot of "blah-blah" for newcomers out there, but this tells things as they are, in the words of people who've already walked their talk.

The only thing I would add to this is "consistency." Whether you are doing well, or doing not so well... keep plugging at it. I remember spending a couple of hours writing what I thought was a really good post... published it and... earned a big fat ZERO for my efforts. Can't let that stuff get you down.

@denmarkguy, thanks for the comment. I completely agree that consistency has to be apart of a successful Steemit strategy.

We do not labor for immediate gratification, but rather for the hope a a better future. We can not do so without constantly putting in time and effort now. Great word!
