Day 2 - Bikaner to Pushkar via Ajmer Highway (260kms)

in #adventure7 years ago

260 kms isn't a big deal especially when you did double of it the previous day. Thoughtsof it made us go lazy and we took our own sweet time to get back on the saddle.

Having done Bikaner in August and a brief guided tour of Junagarh Fort we decided to skip it this time and head directly to Rampuria Haveli. For Junagarh (https://www.instagram.com/p/BXKnDlyl_zM/)

Rampuria Haveli is in the old Bikaner and the road passes from the main bazaar area. Since we were on motorbikes it was easy for us to negotiate with traffic and reach out to haveli. For the ones driving would recommend renting out a tuk tuk to the havali.

One visit to Rampuria Haveli and you will be floored by it's antiquity, grandeur and exquisiteness.

Constructed during the 15th century by Balujee Chalva who was ordered to construct royal and elegant mansions that befit the wealthy merchant family, Rampuria. The Haveli has been constructed with Dulmera red sandstone as the crucial base material which demonstrates gorgeous arty abilities prevalent during that era. The affluent and lavish inner halls and rooms are decorated and beautified with aesthetic object d'art; first-class landscapes and portraits and artefacts made from fine wood which is few of the major and notable attractions of the Rampuria Haveli.

Some amazing roads welcoming us

Beautiful sand art right outside city

Our Next stop was Karni Mata Mandir. Which is also popular by the name of temple of rats. Temple is dedicated to Karni Mata at Deshnoke, 30 kms from Bikaner. (will be putting a separate post for the same)

image

The roads are all the way tarred however had patches all over which ensured that we never touch a 3 digit speed and brake often.

image

The route runs thru many small villages and have lot of railway crossings.

Some tough decisions we make on the road

image

Since we were in our riding gears; we generally used to be the center of attraction for the villagers. Few even tried touching the GoPro on our helmet while others tried to pose well after knowing that it's a camera.

While few gets settled by just looking at camera others gather courage to come up to us and throw all kind of curious questions. Questions from what are we upto to why we are even riding this far.

Doesn't really matter if you are the smallest vehicle on the road

Pushkar was completely sold out for it being Christmas Eve and since we didn't have a booking in advance would mean we would have to put our sleeping bags to use. However the kind souls at Zostel agreed to help and arranged 2 beds for us. This was our first time at a Dome and absolutely loved our experience at the Zostel. The place is really nice and becomes nicer for it has travellers from all over the world.

Some beautiful wall art

Common seating area

Clean room is all one need after being on road all day long

image

image

People from various regions join together over a bonfire talking, singing and sharing travel experiences is definitely an add on to the charm.

By the end of eve we gave a visit to the local market and world's only Bhrama temple. The temple doesn't allow photography but it being the only one in the world definitely deserves a separate post. More on it later.

Definitely a lot to shop

leaving on a sweet note. Don't just don't leave Pushkar without having those delicious Malpuhas

@thenomadictales thanks pushkar revisted through your lenses...its been a long time ago....

This was my 3rd visit to Pushkar and trust me there's a considerable difference Everytime I visit there.

I have to admit that I'm surprised of how India looks. It really seems that you had an amazing time there, experiencing good food and sightseeing.I love how the walls are painted, true art.I also wonder how much time it took the people to create the sand art because that is freaking awesome !

Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your next posts.

You see it's the comments like these that motivates us to leave our comfort levels and explore.

Zostel is quite popular chain among backpackers here for it's quite affordable and are available at almost all good locations.

With regards to sand art I understand it's quite a team work over a few days sometimes weeks. I'm already quite curious to learn more about it and added to my bucket list for my next Rajasthan trip

You should post pictures after the trip because I really am looking forward to them = )
