The Adventures of Alice in wonderland blog#5
In today's blog i let you all take a peek inside Alice my truck/home on wheels.
Thirty years ago the truck rolled off its production line I believe it was originally manufactured for one of the big utility companies possibly the electricity board then around ten years later it was sold to a tile company, either to deliver tiles or used by workers. It was sold on eventually to travellers that converted it into a home complete with a wood burner. I ripped all the interior out when i bought it and created what your about to see.
Hope you Enjoy.......
Here's my log burner
When I bought the truck five years ago, at the time it was in a sorry unloved state and needing a lot of repairs. Its been an interesting journey not without its trials but certainly with many tribulations.
The saying "its not the destination that's important. It's the glory of the ride" comes to mind whenever I travel anywhere.
It was difficult living in the truck whilst converting it and i chose the Autumn to buy it, the cold the first winter made it very challenging but that hardened me to the elements.
This is the finished kitchen that i made from 4x2 solid oak for the frame and a 3 & 1/2 inch thick piece of western red ceder for the counter surface. The doors i made from one piece of sliced elm and the doorknobs were made from apple tree burs. Many hours were spent on the mosaic above the kitchen top as each tile was stuck piece by piece.
I will be showing you more of the interior in my futute blog posts so if you like this post upvote, resteem, follow me @happysmileyman
This is really beautiful. We have done up quite a few vehicles (i will eventually steem? about when i get a handle in this platform. Most of our recent conversions have been smaller vehicles which necessitates more light weight materials but once we did up a Bedford TK horse lorry in UK and she is still my favourite build. Your burner is beautiful. Are you in UK? IF so I hope she is keeping you toasty!
Hi @riverflow thank you for the compliment about my truck, this one is a 7.5 tonne so no need to worry about being lightweight when i did the interior, the same as the TK but theirs not too many of those around anymore, they had good engines too. Ive got a huge stack of wood and my burners hot and im lovely and warm 😊btw i will look out for your future posts regarding conversions... Yay!! I'm your first follower too
Ha thanks! Ill defo get round to those posts. Whereabouts are you? We have relatives and mates in Somerset/Dorset from living in south west. Our TK was lovely but not quite as gorgeous as yours!
Im living near Glastonbury in Somerset where in the World are you now then @riverflows ?
Ah Glastonbury 💓💓💓 we used to live in Radstock.... and my sis in law lives in Chilcompton and mum in law around there too..looking forward to trip 'home' next year. Where are you parked up? We now live near coast about an hour from Melbourne..
Lucky you getting out to Australia, such a beautiful country, i had dreams of moving there years ago but alas it never manifested so wasn't meant to be 😊 im parked on the levels just outside the town, btw you didnt used to live on the site in Radstock in the TK ?
Yes!! That was us - the green one!
in the days before cameras on phones lol - i think it's the only surviving picture we have of her there! Burnt on my memory though...
This is so cool, I'm keen on seeing more of the interior and the entire outside.
