31 DAYS OF #ADVENTUBE // DAY 2 // Q: value, what is that to you? day two in the vlogging advent calendar!

in #adventube5 years ago (edited)

it's kind of a big question today, one that i'm always seeing going around as we decide as this global audience of what VALUE is to us -- especially in an always on demand, hyper connected digital citizen.

yesterday went so well, thank you to everyone that submitted a video, i think it's much faster this way for me to put together the videos if you know that you can just check a folder for the question, open your camera application, record a video and then jump back into the application and upload -- no more spreadsheets or chasing people, those that turn up get in the edited video, i really like that approach.

i'm realising that you can only have EIGHT beneficiaries on a post which kinda destroys the idea of sharing the profits that way, need another way of rewarding people, not sure what that is yet, maybe we wait till the post is at pay out and share the steem directly from the wallet, not sure, seems like a faff, any suggestions are most welcomed, i want the distribution to be completely fair -- i'm interested in building the group of people we can ask questions off not the rewards -- or maybe i should turn off rewards on the posts completely, what do you suggest?

the question today was. ..

value, what is that to you

the people that took part today

@chireerocks, @travelling-two, @shawnsporter, @johnspalding, @navaneeth, @itsliam, @dayleeo (i have a client in a few hours so no name overlays today peeps!)

i'm in discussions with the company that does the hosting to see if i can get a deal to open this up to the next 25/50 people, we have ten but i want to be able to have 25/50 so i have a bunch of videos to choose from, of course it means more work over these next thirty days to make a video each day and like @itsliam said it's gonna add to the length so gonna have to maybe add a rule about a fast reply for quicker editing -- once we get into 'client' stuff next year the length won't matter because your feedback would go back to the client as a big video where they can take bits of suggestion from the video.

i gotta tell you it feels real good that finally i've got a little group of people i can reach out too -- it feels like the old vlogging days!

a good decade ago it was nasty text forums where as now we have these great digital tools we can collab the videos into, grab and download the video and off i go to edit!

eventually we will just have it so we have a few editors or we can just delegate who wants to do a video for the day/week -- multiple edits and videos even, the main thing is that we have a place where we can collect the videos in a fast and efficient way, i believe the platform we have now does that.

bullet points from today. ..

  • created a template in steempeak (it's awesome) for each day that i can update easily each day, means i can focus on the editing and then quickly fill out the template.
  • thank you to everyone that recorded in 16:9 format, we should keep to that, looks nicer in the editor — I should have said from the start but I don’t laying down rules but if we can do that.
  • @chireerocks I know you like to put an overlay over ya video but maybe do it without the text because doing jump cuts kinda makes it distracting.
  • i compressed day one into a mobile version for speed and put in the finals folder on the hosting platform for people who join who are new so they can see at a glance previous videos without digging through posts and stuff, i've optimized the video for mobile playback, i used the great https://handbrake.fr for this.

you have no idea how much joy this brought to me this morning seeing all your faces in here ready for me to download and edit and stitch together, it was going to the pub and meeting up with your friends that you have not met yet, i know this is gonna be an incredible project and i'm excited to further develop this in the new year, roll on getting https://framer.com/blog/posts/x-release for the new year, i'm gonna be live streaming building that out on vimm between editing and blogging, maybe i'll take some live feedback on it as well :)

THANK YOU to all that are taking part right now, you have no idea how much this means to me and how much this does for my mental health to have other people 'accountable' too distributed around the globe! :)

we need a better way to share what a post makes, you can only do it with eight with steempeak and you can't add any at all with @dtube -- plus if we have like 25/50/100 that's gonna be crazy to add each one, you can't template it, suggestions?

P.S - btw, also i spoke to the team of the platform we use, i'm waiting back to have a bigger conversation, they love the project, they said it sounded cool, i guess normally they just have higher level like directors, b-roll, 4k footage and teams use it a different way, i think our little decentralized squad of global vloggers can really grow into something cool, will update you on the price increase to the next level.

Loved watching all these guys, Great to see so many people on a monetized social blockchain making the clear distinction between VALUE and PRICE. Part of what makes this community so great. Happy Day 2

Great job on the edit @teamhumble, and hang in there with the little one @johnspalding <3 poor thing, made my heart melt!

aww good <3 hopefully youll all go back to getting some good rest!

yeah I felt the same way at the end there, seems like we really have our hands in the air like an emoji when it comes to the different ways of value! :)

yes, handsintheairemojis all around! <3

Great editing! Kept mine short and sweet and definitely agree with other responses to the 'value' question, but was weary of my train arriving lol

Took note to find a quiet spot to do these vlogs 😉

Going to a Buddhist retreat (as my mum is Buddhist, so going for support and to unwind/relax the mind with a couple of mediation sessions) for a few days, so hopefully can film from there. Should have 4G in that part of Thailand, but otherwise I might miss some days (hopefully not).

no worries. whatever you can do whenever you can. it's no problem, jump in, jump out, if it's just me, it's just me! that's fine too! :) have a great relaxing time there!

Yeah, I have a problem with finding quite places too, I don't want to just be sitting in my studio but...I guess that IS what it's for! lol

Yea I like to find new interesting places to film, but need to find a quiet place. Now at a Buddhist temple for a few days, so there should be some quiet spots 😊

@teamhumble, Sure I've excluded the idea and i can understand how it's coming up. And great to go through from this collaborated video which is holding the diversified Values.

Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

thanks for your video and daily input, they are great.

Welcome and thank you so much brother. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

Great video again, really loving the diversity. Only thing I can think of is maybe having a few videos with 10 in each etc but then that gets over complicated or if it has to be, maybe taking turns so if it was 25 people, it would be like 3 days of different people but then thats over complicated too so maybe the best idea I have is you have 10 people for a set period of time e.g. 7 days, 14 days etc then you start again or do the next project with completely different people, that way everyone gets ago and get paid some steem too. Of course I would love to be in all the projects lol but if its masses of people needed then maybe taking turns is only way to stop it getting hard to manage.

It is your project if you want to stop rewards but I think that is a little reward and motivates people to do it a bit more.

hmm, that's far too complicated. need a better way. thanks for your thoughts, also remember i've already paid out $15 for the 10 users for the month and i have to pay that out again on the 7th + i wanna upgrade it. i'll have a good think on it, maybe i'll just sent people steem or something, the focus was never gonna be in this 31 days about setting up a project to pay out, i guess the alternative is just to take no payment but i can't see that feature on dtube to ask for no payment and i really wanna put it there instead of youtube, because youtube never got their act together for collobration and tbh i think that platform is dying anyway...

maybe a spreadsheet with people who were on certain days, i liked that part what ya said, i'll take a look at that.

Also maybe it would be good idea to have some guidelines for future vloggers that join, like video aspect ratio, quality etc. Maybe add all the rewards up, pay for the cost of the app plus upgrades and if there some left over split it, only thing is not everyone does videos everyday, complicated as hell lol, you need a team if this gets big haha. If the main goal is upto 100 vloggers then it might have to be no rewards because it would just be too complicated but if it was to become a big thing and it was time consuming, reward would kinda be a must but ill just shut up now lol

yeah i did not want to go too 'rules' that but i'll have a think about it all, i like the gradual daily updates and roll out. it's meant to be chill -- i'm not gonna go too hard on 'quality' i'd rather it be loose and videoblogger style because i don't want to mute voices that can't afford kit.

it's day two, we will see each day, even if it's just me posting a video each day, that's fine too! :) -- if anything it's testing out the platform and the storage at the moment, next year will be the design of a mobile frontend and ideas about how we approach agencies for them to put in tenders for global responses to content they might have, be it products etc.

at 100 vloggers we would not do daily. we would do on demand, they brand/agency would request a 'task' and we would put a price on that as a group and split that, i'm thinking totally micro tasking here too for jobs like animation, greenscreen, voiceover, stuff like that -- like a steem blockchain upwork/fiverr.

yeah I get that, just simple stuff, for instance you already said no filters as it gets in the way. I wasn't sure myself when I started and just winged it. Sounds great, sure it will do well.
