Here’s one from my Wonderful Nature book.
My Gradmother used to have a rooster that used to flirt
with her ... each time she went to feed the chooks, it would make a
little dance around her spreading its wings for her... She was quite fond of it.
On this particular day, my older brother, who was just into
the crawling stage, was playing peacefully on a blanket in the backyard.
When Grandma was leaving the chook pen, it sneaked outside and ran ahead
straight for the baby and started to scratch and peck him, but my Gran was
as quick as lightning and within seconds, had the rooster by the neck.
My brother was crying... he had a couple of superficial scratches but it was
more the noises of the whole commotion that had scared him and mother was
already holding and consoling him.
Mum told this anecdote many a time when I was a child and the end was
always the same... apparently, my Grandma made a very nice chicken
stew for dinner that night .
