The flaw of corporate power consolidation

Whether in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, the US or Europe…what essentially has to happen is for liberation struggles to direct their efforts against corporate power directly. Any other approach, targeting any other institutions, is futile, because any other institution is subordinate. The psychopathic power grab of corporations and their owners; their total consolidation of control over government, has greatly simplified our struggle.

The main thing that was protecting business from being targeted was the façade of government. Today, that façade is evaporating because of the insatiable, self-destructive greed of the super rich, who insist upon exerting their absolute domination with increasing belligerence. They declare openly that serving their interests is the primary function of government, and that their private power, in fact, exercises overwhelming control. They call it “the market”, but what they mean is “us”.

“You have to balance your budget”

No we don’t.

“You have to pay down your debt.”

Actually, no.

“You have to open up your markets to foreign investors”

That’s also a “no”.

“You have to cut public spending.”

Wrong again.

I am not sure how you feel so confident to dictate anything to us, while every single element in your profit-making system depends on our cooperation. It is not even simply a matter of, “you don’t sell any goods if we refuse to buy them”…we have far more control than that. You do not sell any goods if we do not allow those goods to reach the shelves; if we do not allow those goods to be stored safely in your warehouses; if we do not allow those goods to be transported; if we do not allow your shops to operate; if we do not allow you to build your facilities; if we choose to interfere with your offices and corporate headquarters; if we make your executives feel unwelcome; if we decide that your storage cooling mechanisms or heating mechanisms won’t work; if we intercept your deliveries…on and on…there is no way for you to make money without our cooperation, and your profitability is far more important to you than it is to us…so, how can you feel confident to dictate anything to us? Because you control our government? This is precisely what has made you a target. Because you control or security forces? Trying to protect your business operations along every point in the system will undermine your efficiency and profitability even more than anything we might do to sabotage it.

This is what we need to convey, and what we ourselves must first realize.
