My Actifit Activity Log [11.06.2018] S.M.[A].R.T. GOALS

In continuation of our S.M.[A].R.T. GOAL series we will be covering the letter [A] in the acronym. First though a quick recap.

[S]pecific
[M]easurable
[A] stands for “Action”

When a goal is action orientated it means that the priority you are setting is something you plan on acting upon immediately. Not tomorrow (manana) but right now.

The thing about setting a goal that requires you to act right here right now means that this is an objective that actually touches your spirit at a deep level. By this I don’t mean to portray any religious connotation. I simply mean that when you have a goal that actually means something to you the likelihood of you actually prioritizing the action required to attain it multiplies exponentially.

Using our previously sharpened goal as an example, “I want to loose 10 kg of body fat.”, we will now tweak it using the [A]ction lens we have been discussing.

How about this variation: “I will loose 10 kg of body fat by getting up early and going for a brisk morning walk every week day.”

As you can see... this goal is also a promise to act and, for most people, this makes a significant difference to their actual outcome.

Since we are on the subject of comparing goals that are plain and uninspiring to goals that touch and ignite action consider the following example that I was able to help a personal training client with.

Her goal: “I want to be an inspiration to those around me.”
Adjustment: I asked her to picture who she most wanted to inspire? When she went to the gym or went for a run outside who was it that came to mind? I asked her to picture this persons face when she successfully completed her workouts. Was this person happy and excited for her? What would this persons facial expression say if she was lazy and didn’t do her workout? How would that disappointment feel?

So, as you can see, by adjusting slightly how specific I got with her goal and by making her goal real and relevant to her life I was able to touch her spirit (her “why” as I like to call it) and ignite a more definite path to [A]ction.

This is the importance of setting effect S.M.[A].R.T. GOALS that empower immediate action. Waiting until tomorrow to act only diminishes drive and purpose leaving motivation to die on the vine. Goals that yield significant results are stated in such a way as to ignite massive immediate action... RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW!

Alright! Now you know the significance of the letter [A]! Tomorrow we will continue with letter [R] of setting S.M.A.[R].T. GOALS!
