Touring the west coast of Tasmania (My Actifit Report Card: January 9 2020)
We’ve been in Tasmania since Monday night. We’ve been doing lots of walking but have also been out of phone reception areas a lot, hence lack of posting.
Today we left Macquarie Heads where we camped overnight, just outside the popular west coast tourist town of Strahan. We drove through an old mining town called Zeehan and on to Montezuma falls, the longest waterfall in Tasmania. There we did an easy walk down to the falls (10 kms return) along the route of an old tram line that was used in the past for mining.
After that we drove to Waratah where we’re staying tonight. It has a couple of waterfalls also, including one in town. It’s very windy here so we’ve had to put the ‘pop-top’ down and stow our extra stuff in the front foot-wells. Sigh. I will probably bump my head 10 times between now and when we leave in the morning!
There is no trickery here! The jetty looks like it’s floating but it’s just the morning mist (or bushfire smoke from the mainland?) at Macquarie Heads this morning

Very hot and dry here on the west coast at the moment. Montezuma falls look very dry usually way more water coming over. Should do the walk down to the old hydro power station in the valley below the waterfall in the centre of Waratah 👍 Also if you have time the walk out to Philosopher falls it's about a 9 KLM drive out on Waratah rd heading towards Corrina. It's about a 45 minute walk through beautiful rainforest 👍.
