My Actifit Report Card: November 16 2019
More poetry today, mostly bad.
Some of it’s kind of okay, though, I think. I’m too addicted to free verse, but not willing to fully experiment with structure.
One of the things that I’ve found helpful when writing poetry is to really just start and then keep going, as opposed to being diligent and disciplined as I have to be with other sorts of writing.
Lots of angsty music helps too; I’m exploring a character who’s not necessarily villainous but is inspired by Dostoevsky’s Underground Man for the Degenesis game I’ve been playing in, and reconciling that concept with something that will fit in a party of adventurers is both interesting and a little difficult.
I was drifting off this morning, and had a game later in the day, so I had a couple of energy drinks (spaced out by a few hours). The first one really picked me up in a way that I didn’t necessarily find enjoyable, but which was interesting and intriguing from a perspective of “oh hey, that’s happening.”
Not necessarily inspiring, but perhaps pushing me past a threshold of stuff that I’ve been struggling to break through.
Had an observation that much of the way I live my life is based on aversions to ugly things I’ve witnessed instead of an attraction to the right way to live; there are examples of things on both sides, but I can think of far more of the former than the latter.
Not sure what that means.
