If you know the height of one of your kids... if you line them up right, you can use similar triangles (or trig if you can measure angles well...) to estimate the height of the tree! You just need the have your eye on the ground level... line their head up with the top of the tree... measure their height, and then the distance from your eye to their feet and then distance from your eye to the foot of the tree!
