The blue hunter (on Forest kingfisher)

in #aceh7 years ago

About birds, I was had some previous posts.

  1. Adventurers in fish farms

  2. Waiting for what? (on Straw-headed bulbul; Acehnese: Beurjuk Bale)

  3. Birds

  4. A couple

  5. Birds at intertidal zone

  6. Observing a bird

And today, I was very lucky this morning. Few times of my trial to take pictures of this bird end up to failed. It was too agile and very sensitive to any movement. It knows when it flew and left me in a fury. But, this morning, in contrast to some previous times, the bird is called in our language (Acehnese): "cakeuk" - because of long-beaked and short-necked - just like letting me to take pictures of its self. It was, even like invited two of its family, to gather there, so I can take their pictures.

But actually, last night, it rained and flooded rice fields. I know, they perched there was to observe prey in the stagnant water. As said, the lenses of their eyes are round like eggs gives them the ability to predict the exact position of prey in the water.

Anyway, this is a very happy thing for me, this morning.

Cakeuk, in our language, known as the Forest kingfisher, or also known as the Macleay's or blue kingfisher. It was has a scientific name: Todiramphus macleayii. One interesting thing on this beautiful bird, was way to treat its prey. When the prey has been caught in his beak, the prey killed by hitting it against a tree trunk or rock, then, be eaten. The parts of the prey that does not fit with its digestion will be spewed out. And finished eating its prey, it will be dressed up with rubbing the oil contained in its beak on feathers so that feathers were always looks shiny.
