in #aceh8 years ago

The ancient city of Sumatra has left so many material evidence of history. Most of the evidence is tombstones that has epigraphy. Lots of historical information that can be obtained from epigraphy, but up to now, the study of epigraphy of Sumatra have not received proportionate attention.

This authentic sources, in plenty of time, often overlooked due to a lack of people who are interested in studying. The majority of people living in the area of the ancient city sites of Sumatra are also not been much among them who understood the importance of this epigraphy for the writing of history (historiography), so that the artifacts which have epigraphy are very much ignored.

Yesterday, CISAH just visited a site where tombstones have epigraphy or inscriptions which are important for the writing of history. The site is located in the yard of an old woman who lived in Moncrang, North Aceh. CISAH come to the place to record images of epigraphy found on ancient gravestones there, to be archived, so that later became the primary resources that will be reviewed by epigraphs and historians.

These are some pictures of CISAH activity for recording Islamic epigraphy found on tombstones comes from the 15th century.
