Why Intelligent Steemians Do Not Exploit the Reward-pool

We are all in the same boat here. Yes, even you too, I know some of you think you're smarter. Know what? Steempower cannot be withdrawn immediately and the big brother is watching.
If you ask me, steempool misuse is like self-sabotage, or even like some kind of selfharm. I bet most bullies know very well what they are doing and still, keep doing it.
Why?
Probably they simply think they might get away with it under the radar. Maybe they trust the system can hold on.
LOL every single comment, post and transaction are tracked forever in the blockchain...
Deal with it
When you misuse (even if it is not prohibited) the reward pool you are basically stealing value from genuine posted content.
Please let's remember just because something is not illegal yet (steem is young!) does not mean its OK (applies the other way around too pretty nicely).
Find your own reason to stop
Sociopaths , parasites and plain dumb people are a part of society whether we like or not. So instead teaching morals lets get straight to the point and explain in their own language the why fishy behaviour is not worth it:
- Reputation in Steemit community is too valuable: you don't want to mess around with it
- More and more users are making money out of disclosing reward misuse (whether its auto-vote, collusion etc)
- You want to protect your own SteemPower. The more people misusing the system, the higher the risk Steem as a currency is going down. Investors eyes are currently on Steem as a not fully consolidated crypto (lets take care of it!!)
- Last but not least, for God's sake Protect your own interests! By pro-actively being a good example and disclosing misuses you are actually profiting long-term!

Very good article. I have seen alot videos on you tube about auto voting I don't want any auto votes on my articles even if I do make money.
How does a program ever going to estimate or measure the value of an article? I think it is an important question we need to ask ourselves. On the other hand side, some curators are making use of auto-voting software because of the 30min voting window rule.
When it comes to legitimate curators auto-voting good authors, I could see it a lesser evil. still share your concern on the topic.
I just started here and one thing that has been bothering me is the number of useless comments. People seem to be spamming generic comments on some posts, is this an exploit? It's nice and all to say great post, but adding depth and content in a comment adds to the overall post in the form of discussion. It seems like some people are just spreading comments far and wide in the hopes of getting upvotes. Seems like clutter to me.
Well, sometimes users are manually advertising their channels or just copy-pasting their own posts. I think this is not an issue, since flagging feature gets rid of "manual" spammers most of the time.
Bots that do comment can be a problem, you can however make another bot to flag spammin bots.

I agree with your statement on generic comments. I have noticed the same myself since I've been a member. I try my best to give my honest opinion and feedback on whatever material I have read. I don't think I would read the blog if I wasn't interested in the content in the first place, however I think some people think that randomly commenting on as many posts as they can is going to make them rich. I don't think that's feasible or even remotely realistic. I would love to see more genuine conversation held here on Steemit because I think it would generate more attention to the site and the blogs. I appreciate that you pointed out the importance of the content of comments. I will keep this in mind during my time here.
Yes many people seem to be determined to waste their time with useless spam instead of investing time in actual content. Freedom of choice i guess.
Actually, I've made more Steem on comments than I think I have my own content, however I try to comment something that adds to the blog instead of spamming. This is supposed to be a social media platform, correct? So there should be more actual human exchange between the writer and the audience, in my opinion. I suppose everyone could just post content and have their fans read it and post but what kind of echo chamber would that be? After awhile I think people would grow tired of hearing their same thoughts relayed back to them. I have posted a little of my own thoughts for others to read but it's going to take some time to generate a serious following. I appreciate being able to read blogs, gain some new insight and knowledge and add my two cents.
Totally right!!! I have also noticed that people seem to have no intrest in upvoting or reading comments. I have seen so many videos with 50+ comments and highest comment has like 3 upvotes. How are anyone making anything out of that spam if no one is even upvoting them?
For me it's important to know that someone has actually engaged in the content provided. I want to know that what I took the time to write, compose, and add to the platform was worth a comment. It means more if people are actually thinking about what you present than just simply fishing for followers, votes and money, or at least it does for me. I can't really speak for anyone else, but if I am going to read something then nine times out of ten I will leave a comment to let the author know what I thought about the material and what if anything I can add for whomever else may be reading. After all it is, social media, right? Without the social interaction it would seem rather bland, much to be desired.
Would it help to have comments with more upvotes moved higher on the comment list? It would be similar to Reddit but would allow users to avoid most of the useless comments we see. Maybe they already have plans for something like that but I'm not sure.
With that system in place you tend to find whoever gets in early tends to corner the market on up votes. Even a reply on a top parent comment tends to get more up votes than a late primary comment that contributes more overall to the discussion
We would be better served with a random order of parent comment chain being presented at each loading off the page. In the hopes that we are more likely to find and up vote interesting content that helps discussions.

I totally agree people shouldn't just blatantly copy someone's work and post it with the original link. Steem should promote creative and original work more. Steem is a great way to post your content, post your progress and make a little money off it, it shouldn't be used to post other news articles!

Interesting insight! It's no surprise that people are misusing this platform, especially given the fact you can monetize your activity here. I am definitely having a hard time getting followers, and create all of my own content, but I also understand I am pretty new still and so is this platform. Hopefully some of these shady practices can be overcome so people practicing more honest behavior can get good results too. Thanks for the post @lightproject
Despite the long road ahead of a start in steemit as a newcomer blogger, all I can say is, keep going. There are real human curators that will eventually detect, share, and incentivate quality stuff.
You know why? Because when you write GOOD quality content in the steem blockchain WE all profit from it indirectly.
