The Walking Dead: 10 season to be forever young (ENG - ITA)

Very few series can boast of having achieved the goal of 10 seasons. Such long-lived series belong to another era. Less still those that can combine this goal with having generated as many as 2 spinoffs, a long webseries and an expanded universe.
The Walking Dead has recently celebrated this milestone, returning with its tenth season and launching a new spinoff after the one linked to Fear The Walking Dead .
In between, let us also assume that a film should soon arrive in the cinema, of which little is known except that it will have as its protagonist the fundamental protagonist of the mother series and of the comic strip by Robert Kirkman or Rick Grimes.
The tenth season is born with a patina of melancholy as it has been made known, even before it begins that Danai Giurira will leave the series, abandoning the role of Michonne, famous character almost of the first hour and probably the one currently most loved by the public.
Showrunners have come and gone in recent years and perhaps everyone misses that apocalyptic and action look of Glen Mazzara. Scott Gimple was a half flop and now it's up to Gale Ann Hurd to pull the strings.
This season's premiere gave very comforting answers. Seeing such an "old" series being able to stand upright is a sign of great hope.

Sono pochissime le serie che possono vantare di aver raggiunto l'obiettivo delle 10 stagioni. Serie cosi longeve appartengono ad un'altra epoca. Meno ancora quelle che possono abbinare a questo traguardo anche quello di aver generato ben 2 spinoff, una lunga webseries ed un universo oramai espanso. The Walking Dead ha da poco festeggiato questo traguardo, ritornando con la sua decima stagione e lanciando un nuovo spinoff dopo quello legato a Fear The Walking Dead. Nel mezzo mettiamoci anche che dovrebbe approdare a breve anche un film al cinema, di cui poco si sa se non che avrà come protagonista il protagonista fondamentale della serie madre e del fumetto di Robert Kirkman ovvero Rick Grimes. La decima stagione nasce con una patina di malinconia visto che è stato reso noto, ancor prima di iniziare che Danai Giurira lascerà la serie, abbandonando i panni di Michonne, celebre personaggio quasi della prima ora e probabilmente quello attualmente più amato dal pubblico. Si sono avvicendati showrunner in questi anni e forse a tutti manca quel piglio apocalittico e action di Glen Mazzara. Scott Gimple è stato un mezzo fiasco ed ora tocca a Gale Ann Hurd tirare le fila. La premiere di questa stagione ha dato risposte molto confortanti. Vedere una serie cosi "vecchia" riuscire a stare in piedi con la testa altissima è un segno di grande speranza.

A hope that, however, for TWD represents a bit of a double-edged sword, being a feeling that has accompanied the series for too many years. Good that there is after 10 seasons. Bad that too much is there to witness an expectation of public and criticism towards that definitive step towards the greatness that never happened. Today the Whisperers represent a great fear towards the survivors, towards Oceanside, what remains of the Kingdom and Alexandria. They are fearsome, ruthless and subtly hidden behind their masks. The premiere is lining up but it also allows us to look beyond and inside the characters who for the first time begin to wonder if they are not the villains of someone else's story. TWD has always been a story of survival but has never managed to rise to a universal history capable of going to touch those strings that other historic products have managed to touch. For some time now he has tried to be more introspective and intimist by demonstrating the ability to correct some mistakes but also the inability to really dig deep into the folds of what he would like to tell. Quite simply, the series fails to elevate itself, it cannot mix action, horror with the real drama, that of the characters and not only of the world they inhabit. This has always been an original sin of the series but in this premiere however it seems to have been tackled better than usual, even though it is often trivial and didactic in some dialogues, always weak point, along with characters and music, of the series.

We will see where it takes us this season but it certainly started well.
Excellently for a 10 year old series and with many main characters now a distant memory.
If we see it from this point of view the first chapter of the tenth season is excellent.
If we look at it from the point of view of what the serial scene offers today then we will have less comforting answers.

Una speranza che però per TWD rappresenta un po un'arma a doppio taglio, essendo un sentimento che da troppi anni accompagna la serie. Bene che ci sia dopo 10 stagioni. Male che da troppo sia li a testimoniare un'attesa di pubblico e critica verso quel passo definitivo verso la grandezza che non è mai avvenuto. Oggi gli Whisperers rappresentano una grandissima paura verso i sopravvisuti, verso Oceanside, quel che resta del Kingdom ed Alexandria. Sono temibili, spietati e subdolamente nascosti dietro le loro maschere. La premiere riallaccia le fila ma ci permette anche di guardare oltre e dentro i personaggi che per la prima volta iniziano a chiedersi se non siano loro i villain della storia di qualcun altro. TWD è sempre stata una storia di sopravvivenza ma non è mai riuscita ad elevarsi a storia universale capace di andare a toccare quelle corde che invece altri prodotti storici son riusciti a toccare. Da un po di tempo ha provato ad essere più introspettiva ed intimista dimostrando capacità di correggere alcuni errori ma anche l'incapacità di andare a scavare davvero a fondo dentro le pieghe di quello che vorrebbe raccontare. Molto banalmente la serie non riesce proprio ad elevarsi, non riesce a mixare azione, horror al dramma vero, quello dei personaggi e non solo del mondo che abitano. Questo è sempre stato un peccato originale della serie che in questa premiere però sembra essere stato affrontato meglio del solito, pur risultando spesso banale e didascalico in alcuni dialoghi, da sempre punto debole,insieme a personaggi e musiche, della serie.

Vedremo dove ci porterà questa stagione ma è sicuramente iniziata bene.
Ottimamente per una serie vecchia 10 anni e con molti personaggi principali oramai lontano ricordo.
Se la vediamo da questo punto di vista il primo capitolo della decima stagione è ottimo.
Se la guardiamo dal punto di vista di quello che oggi offre il panorama seriale allora avremo delle risposte meno confortanti.
