AAA Review - Vagabond 배가본드 - Korean Action Drama Series

I don't usually watch Korean dramas despite the heavily popular K-fever over the years, but I like the Korean movies especially those actions thrillers, disaster, zombies. ** Vagabond ** was one of the Korean drama that I chanced upon while browsing Netflix and I thought to give it a try since it seems like a good action drama.

The show is currently in its 4th episode and there is enough action to keep me wanting to continue catching. Not sure if Netflix is airing at the same time as Korean TV but one episode a week is just about right for me.

Quick plot

Cha Dal-geon is the show's protaganist, a lower class stuntman who had taken custody of his young nephew after the passing of his brother. The boy was tragically involved in a air disaster where every passenger got killed while on way to Morocco.

On his way to Morocco with the rest of the victims' families, the grieving Cha discovered the possibility of terrorism involved in the air disaster. He set off on a mission to discover the truth. Using his skills as a stuntman, Cha managed to track down the man responsible for bombing the plane.

At the same time, a National Intelligence agent, Go Hae-ri, based in Morocco became involved in the incident as well. Together with Cha, they soon discovered more evidence leading to the truth. Both of them were soon being hunted down by assassins.

Back in Seoul, it was revealed to viewers that a bigger national corruption was taking place and that a private arms company seems to be involved in the bombing of the plane. As high ranking officials in the NIS slowly gets taken down (bribed) by the company, Cha and Go and left on their own to survive, and continue the pursuit of uncovering the dark conspiracy.

Review

Action drama coupled with conspiracies is what I look for when choosing a TV show. Vagabond has all the elements that makes me want to continue watching. Some really nice fighting scenes and car chases. The background of the main protagonist as a stuntman definitely adds credibility to his ability to fight. We had, so far, seen him single handedly took down professional assassins.

I like the cinematography of this series that is almost on par as what we see in Korean movies. Fast pace and good action performed by the main actor. Not too sure about the female actress though. Kind of feel like maybe she is not the correct cast, or the role written for her is too weak.

The show is almost halfway through and the story is slowly building up as more secrets are revealed. Hope the action scenes continue to amaze me.
