Market Friday ~ Time of Changes

in #marketfriday7 years ago

Hey, guys! It's #MarketFriday time again :) New season begun, and isn't it a good opportunity to update your wardrobe? Don't forget to get rid of all the stuff you didn't put on for at least one year!

Well, we have an amazing event here in Kyiv that take part almost every weekend. It is called ... All yours but this translation is very poor. Anyway, the idea is to popularize Ukrainian manufacturers and makers. They and only they can participate. Everything here is surely made in Ukraine.

A big drawback that Ukraine inherited from USSR was a light industry. A few years ago it wasn't easy to find a good quality goods, dress or a coat or a pair of shoes whatever made in Ukraine. There were exceptions that confirm the rule. It was cool to wear made in USA or at least in Poland and not local.

In 2013 all "made-in-Ukraine" got a powerful push, or second birth. People began to understand that buying local product strengthens the economy and independence of Ukraine.

And local manufacturers and craftsmen got their chance. They began with small: page on Facebook and Instagram, small shipments, a lot of handmade. Encouraged by their customers, they started to grow, and then this trade show was organized. First, it was held once in 2 months or so, and took place in the city center on a big picturesque square. They have not only cloths, shoes and accesorizes, but also a food zone from all over Ukraine. It was amazing atmosphere, and even if you do not need anything you could not resist to pick at least a little thing, or craft chocolate, or home made bread, or fancy cup :)

Nowadays, they are not children, but adults. And its all isn't cheap, because really good stuff that is not made in China or on a big factory, can't be too cheap. Instead, you can find here everything for your chic and unique look. I know fashionistas who are proud to wear look all made in Ukraine.

The trade market have an address now, it is usually held in a building with 4 floors situated on a hill in a picturesque city center. It has 2 open-air platforms where you can get a snack and a drink, and those smells would not mix with perfumes and clothes.

But time after time the go outside to that traditional place on the square, and trade market became like a small fest with music and installations. A lot of fun!

Okay, and here I'll let you go to look through the rest of photos taken by me while I was looking for something special to meet a spring season... Have fun!

Hi @zirochka!

I love the esprit de corps! The dictionary defines that as a feeling of pride, fellowship, and common loyalty shared by the members of a particular group.

I can see that there is pride in products made in Ukraine and there should be! How better to stimulate your economy and growth than to make a superior product and for cheaper than can be imported? I love the idea of updating their own factories and bringing their markets to a place where a good time can be had, all while shopping and boosting the economy.

Yay1!

It has come a long way! It is a beautiful country and I am glad to see it do well and I wish for continued success! Thank you for taking the time to take photos and putting the post together. I love that you shared part of your culture and a bit of history with us today. Thank you!!!

Howdy zirochka! Well this is such an interesting post and I really enjoyed being able to see what those Made In Ukraine markets are like, that's a wonderful idea too, I'm so glad to see them succeeding!

I wish them succeeding with all my heart, and to all my country.

Tomorrow is our elections. So much depends on them. Wish us good luck

We will elect a president today. I am surprised - your pronunciation is quite correct! :D I'l give my vote for current president Poroshenko

What a cool post for Market Friday and its great when I see countries working to promote buying locally made

Thank you so very much! I hope it will spread soon all over the country, to other towns, and they will have no need to go Kyiv to sell or to buy 🙂 That would be so nice

That would be great if it was to expand like that New Zealand had a similar campaign years ago which ended up being country wide and worked very well

And now we can buy goods from NZ even here in Ukraine :)

We get the odd NZ product here but not that much to be honest

That's because NZ is not big itself :)

indeed it is pretty small actually
