Starting a New Mile

I like starting new miles of my journey as much as I like observing the beginning of those of others along the way. I am working on a new and exciting project with a good partner in the real world I aim to build steem into. More on that later when it is something.

In the meantime, you may know I enjoy the miles my little ones walk. Especially when they take joy in watching other life develop.

"Oh my gosh they laid eggs in the nest!!" That is the first time I remember paying attention to this development. Apparently, more little nature chick watched a couple morning doves https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Mourning_Dove/overview were spending a good amount of time in the tree in front of our house. She propped a board up on the tree to take a peek at the development and was rewarded with the discovery of a couple small, bright white eggs.

She kept visiting the nest to sneak berries in or put some of her hair in to make it more comfortable. I was almost certain that the birds were going to abandon or relocate.

She showed her sister. She checked things out every day. Mother was apparently alright with the friendly visitations and prepared to see this thing through.

I had to check it out myself. If my over-exuberant offspring hadn't over investigated at this point, surely I could look. This is the look of a nervous bird trying to appear invisible. Didn't even budge and I left her alone after that.

"They hatched!! Both eggs hatched!!" Having found a way to snap a quick pic of mom, I figured I could easily do the same with the little ones and not disturb them. "Oh! They are so soft. I am in love." Those are exact words from my little one who can't seem to understand the boundaries that should exist between delicate life and our intrusion.

Story ended happily enough. They grew more feathers, They fledged. They left the busy tree and most likely have found a quieter one. Here, we have the empty nest. Many years 'til I have an empty nest and I am pretty happy about that.

Even as an adult I still marvel at that whole process. We had a nest of robins outside of the garage in a bush this year, and I couldn't help peeking in every day either! But to experience that through the eyes of a child--priceless! Such a kind little soul you have charge of.

Yes it makes me proud. It was all I could do to not tell her to stay away and not interfere with the nature. We had some robins a couple years ago and did lots of peeking.

How sweet, @zekepickleman. The birds sure are friendly and talkative from this end. 🙏

We live near a nature preserve and are lucky to have them along with a couple dozen other species I see regularly. Makes my better half angry when they get noisy as the sun comes up!!

While we have tons of Mourning Doves in our yard, I've never seen a nest. This is wicked cool, @zekepickleman! And I hear you on the empty nest - my three are now all adults, and we're on the precipice of some big changes in our living situation, so that last shot really got me in the feels, much like, "I'm in love" comment from your little one. Thanks so much for sharing this magical mile with us.

Ah that is sweet.

Funny thing is the “oh I am in love” was from a video she posted on Instagram and was preceded by “they are so soft” I had to ask her if she thought touching them was a good idea. She said she knew it was a bad idea and just couldn’t resist trying just the once.

Awww, such a cutie! 😊

You must have had to take those photos over several weeks. That's pretty cool. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Yah this was a post a few weeks in the making. Made me curious to learn a little more about them and hope they will return the next time.

Such a sweet thing to experience. I love our doves, watching them and their little ones :) Sweet pictures @zekepicklelman!

Yah I always liked hearing them calling in the summer. Having them put up with us spying on them as they grew their little family.

My mother in law has nesting geese in her yard every year; my boys always enjoy watching the goslings grow after hatching. Thanks for sharing!

Ah yes we have Canada geese nesting in strange places on the ground and hissing at everyone who comes near. So neat to see them parading around with a trail of little waddlers.
