Photostory - Becoming a writer through traveling (16) - Writingamigo meets a Mayan Shaman. Magic happens.

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Miracles... they don't exist.
Only things that we cannot explain
in our mind, which is brilliant
but sometimes too constrained.

Writingamigo was always into mystery and magic. He did not know what hides behind those words, but he felt that it must be super interesting. Otherwise, why everyone hypes about it?

That is exactly why Writingamigo decided to find out all the truth by himself. He started searching for a local Mayan shaman around the Lake Atitlan.

One thing lead to another and Writingamigo ended up driving to Tata Perdo‘s house. Are you guessing who that Tata Pedro is? Well, so did Writingamigo. He only knew that Tata supposedly has some knowledge, which might be considered to be shamanic.

So, Writingamigo and his girlfriend have reached the house of Tata Perdo. To everyone's dissapointment it was just an average villager’s house with old furnitures and shattered walls, where a big family has lived peacefully.

Guys were welcomed in very politely and asked to wait in a ceremonial room for Tata Perdo. Ha, you really thought that nothing strange is going to happen?

Tata Pedro showed up. You would never say that he is some kind of shaman or a man with some higher powers. He looked like every Mayan grandpa. However, you could see in Tata Pedro’s eyes that he was completely calm and extremely intelligent.

The first problem occurred when Writingamigo and his girlfriend had to talk with Tata Pedro as they could only speak English and Tata was a Spanish speaker.

Oh well, it looks like even shamans have a lot of limits after all.

Writingamigo thought and started communicating in the only universal language – signs. They spoke about some simple stuff. Also, Writingamigo’s girlfriend was bitten by a dog just a few days ago and the wound really hurt her. Guys asked if Tata Pedro could do anything about it.

He just took some candles, lit them up and started smoking the room and her leg. After that, he put his arm on the wound, held it there for couple of seconds, and said that everything will be all right.

If Writingamigo was a believer in all this crazy stuff, his girlfriend was always skeptic. However, believe me or not, she later told Writingamigo that the wound stopped hurting right after Tata Perdo’s healing session. Till this day they are both not sure if Tata Pedro was capable of making miracles, but it surely looked like that.

Also, after all that experience Writingamigo understood that a word “miracle” has a very bad meaning and explanation. It represents something that is unreal to most of us and Writingamigo couldn’t disagree more. According to Writingamigo:

We call something we cannot explain a miracle. However, that does not mean that it is unreal or against the universal truths. It only means that we have a limited mind and constrained thoughts, which labels everything what is beyond as a miracle, while it is actually nothing more magical than boiling water or a crying baby.

After that, Writingamigo told Tata Pedro that he wants to be a writer. He asked for an advice. He expected the answer to be at least a little strange and hard to explain, but it was pretty straightforward:

Just observer the nature, Writingamigo. It has all the answers.

Freaking shamans, right? However, Writingamigo respected this good advice and learned one more lesson:

Greatest things in the world a very simple. Never believe people who are over complicating things to look smart. Those pseudo-geniuses are the greatest threat to the world. The answer is always simple and that is pure magic.

Love it!! I agree with tato, nature is a huge inspiration. It's more difficult for me to write at the present because it's winter in NY, it's not even the cold as much as the perpetually gloomy grey skies casting an ugly shadow over everything. I look forward to spring when I can spend time out in the wood are at the lake again :)

Oh yeah, I totally get it! While traveling, I understood that some places are just better for writing than others. It is something about the surrounding energy, which is different in every place on every season. I hope that sping will come faster this year :)

Love watching what you are up to - be careful of spiritual healing - I had it done on my leg after a motorbike (really a souped up moped) accident left me with a broken femur - faith healer got me off crutches whilst I probably needed them and my leg has caused me problems ever since. Can I say it was the fault of the healer through extant proof? No. My body tells me 'yes'.
Happy Boxmas!
Namaste.

Oh yea, it is always important to remember actual laws of nature. Good words and spiritual healing might help to cure the sickness, but it is never enough. If you will start walking with a broken leg, because someone is spiritually healing it, you wil have it broken forever. Simple. As I said - those people are not magicians as well. Laws of nature are the ones to give priority to.
I hope that your leg will get better in time. You know now that no one can be trusted fully. Even those with more knowledge.
Happy Boxmas to you too!

Another great adventure in your travels, they are always fun to read, plus I usually learn something. Like the idea of taking writing from the surroundings. Nature, and just about everything in life around us, is so often more interesting/amazing and often funny, than anything people can make up in fiction/movies, etc. Great inspiration.

Thanks for your support, @ddschteinn! I am really glad that you can get someting out of my posts! And yeah, sometimes nature is so beautiful and entertaining, but too obvious to notice without paying attention.
