Humans and Money.... Interesting Observations

in #money7 years ago (edited)

I struggle sometimes to understand those who either worship or hate money.  I try to think of it as a tool.  It is really difficult to develop that thinking process when our need/desire for it is in the forefront every day.  I like money it is a great tool and I don't like to see it demonized.

This is not a bash on money, nor the trending page, or any of the articles, really just an observation on how often we think about money.  (I included myself)

So, someone mentioned they thought the trending page (which is sorted by a formula focused on money) looks good.  I went to look, and I don't even know why this whole concept struck me.  The first 8 posts, sorted by money value (and posting time) were all about money.  :)  Again, not bashing the posts or the content or SteemIt.  I just thought it was interesting.  It seems this tool is another thing we all have in common.

Strange Random Conversation Starter.  Any thoughts?  I'd like to read them below.

It is our legacy that worths something. "If you are dreaming about money, your dreams are of paper". Anyways. I can't say that money is bad but I have seen millionaires lose their only son 20 year old due to harshest illness. I have seen many things money can't buy. As of unhappiness, lack of money makes it even worse because individiual is starting to find a reason for his unhappiness and of course - social imply - is that his lack of money is causing it. For me, money represents just another way of interacting with people. It's like a silent, paper communication and understanding/misunderstanding, nothing more, nothing less.

I like that view, thank you for sharing.

Money is such an integral part of our society and our perceived worth to society that it doesn't strike me at all that the top 10 posts have to deal with money.

Good Point, and in addition - This is likely a sub-culture very interested in money in one way or another. Thank you for the comment and read.

You are certainly correct with that point about the sub-culture here @whatsup. It's the exact same reason that topics such as Steemit and cryptocurrency do so well here. THat is simply the audience that has been built and cultivated here.

Agreed. I write a lot about SteemIt, but when I think about it, I have to say: There are not very many things we all have in common. Steem and SteemIt are two of them. I go back and forth on whether or not it is a good thing.

I think for now it totally works. Whether that will always be the case is still yet to be determined, but I think that if steemit wants to be able to thrive and beat all of its soon to be copy cats, there needs to be a more diverse range of topics in the trending page for new users. I know very little about how Steemit works so I can honestly say that sometimes there is not anything in the top 10-20 articles on the trending page that I feel I can read, understand, and comment intelligently on. Now I'm sure this could change and I hope it does, but for right now I am doing my best to comment and post on a wider variety of topics.

Nice observation. Upvoted and resteemed.

Thank you for reading, voting and the resteem. :)

welcome I will appreciate if you can resteem this article to promote world's peace. https://steemit.com/life/@richguy/justice-and-fair-play-the-bedrock-of-peace-and-unity

How did I know someone was going to link to this... :)

I'm a master of the obvious?

OOOH yah!

Yes I agree, I also try to think money as a toll. Yes money is not everything but we need it. Nice posting :)

Thank you.

We think about money when there are not enough of them, we think of them as well when we have a lot of them...

Eighty BTC! Holy Crap! poor fella.

Did you see anything else! I cracked up when I read this. Irony.

Yah, The hacks... Life is funny, but it seems like good people are starting to be in more control thanks to decentralized currencys!

p.s. following you now ;)

Jim Carrey said, “I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer.” Another comedian, Whitney Cummings, said on a Joe Rogan podcast, (and I'm paraphrasing), "Once you get to a certain level of wealth everything becomes free." I think both the unconscious pursuit of money and the limitations of being poor are problems. Money doesn't equal happiness or enlightenment, but it is necessary. It is a fact that children from poorer families have more trouble with delayed gratification. Our minds don't even develop until after our 25th year which seems unfair compared to the expectations of society and laws. These are just some thoughts. I don't think there is any way to simplify this topic. I am optimistic that we are moving towards a culture that values skill and knowledge over status and wealth, but I think there will always be a disparity between rich and poor. Many great authors, for example, come from impoverished backgrounds. Sometimes this struggle can be a blessing, and sometimes a curse.

Very insightful thoughts.

that's the dilemma....like it and hate it....deserve my upvote and resteem....

Wow nice one. Glad to finally see you getting larger success on your posts :)

I enjoy your observations. Always great input you give.

Thank you, I am not an Author nor a want to be Author. I find I am still trying to find my niche. I have always loved SteemIt and I sometimes wonder if the "Powers that Be", really understand the solid but still slightly immature product they have here.

I find you to be a great blogger and I wonder the same thing.
