• The skeleton of a dinosaur that has greeted visitors to the Natural History Museum for more than a century is to go on display in Wales.

• "Dippy" the diplodocus graced the London museum from 1905 until it was removed and replaced in the entrance hall with a blue whale in 2017 .

• The 70ft (21m) long beast, made up of 292 bones, will be on display in the National Museum in Cardiff from 19 October 2019 to 26 January 2020.

On Sunday we took 1/2pint to see "Dippy" the diplodocus in Cardiff museum. Not only does Cardiff museum tick 2 boxes as far as:

1 Getting out the house
2 Educational

But it also ticks my favourite box

3 FREE

The weather here in Wales has been very Welshy these past few weeks..... Its been raining continuously for what feels like forever. Having a 3yr old child, any parent knows, being stuck inside for any length of time with nothing left to do can drive you up the wall!!

So when Mrs W saw that Dippy was arriving in Cardiff we decided we had to take him...

1/2pint put on his finest dinosaur jumper and picked up his trusty side-kick - Dave the dinosaur, and off we went.

So after a lot of ass-kissing and apologising, we start to make our way around the rest of the museums' exhibitions. We've been here a few times in the past, like I said it's FREE, and Mrs W knows exactly what I'm like.

We make our way through the museum when the wife (who still is in a bad mood with me) says, look up there.... That thing has a mouth as nearly as big as yours!

A passing family let out a little snigger, they know I've done something wrong.

Now come on. Is my mouth really that big?

BTW, that was a rhetorical question. Please don't answer it!

We spend the next few hours making our way through the museum. To save time I'll just add a few pictures at the end...

Cardiff museum have a "walk through time" exhibition. It explains the history of how Wales was formed and the processes that shaped everything we see today. It talks about, not just the physical features but also the plants and animals that have inhabited this country over the years.

It's a great place to come visit and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to kill a morning when it's raining.

1/2pint and Mrs W getting to know the dinosaurs that walked this part of the world.

The play and learn section of the museum is fantastic for those inquisitive minds. Objects here are made to be handled and played with, so luckily he can't break them.

We had a great time and will definitely be heading back again some time soon. Everytime we go, we discover new things and new places we haven't explored before.

So before we headed home, we had just enough time to enjoy the snacks Mrs W had packed and to reflect on another great family day spent together.
