Remember remember the 5th of November... Flames, fireworks and a family night out.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November.... The last time a man entered in to the "houses of Parliament" with an honest intention!

Every 5th of November, here in the UK, we remember the failed attempt of Guy Fawkes to blow up King James the first and the rest of the dishonest lot in the houses of Parliament. Guido Fawkes (aka Guy Fawkes) became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, the failure of which has been commemorated in the UK as Guy Fawkes Night since 5 November 1605. Since then tradition dictated that we burn his effigy on a bonfire, commonly accompanied by fireworks.

We only had a few fireworks and we let them off relatively early as to not annoy our neighbours. Our dog isn't bothered by the loud noises and flashing lights, in fact she's quite happy to sit and watch them with us and scrat he's to come out if we lock her in!!

A heavily pregnant Mrs W, my (not so small) 3yr old and the dog, all sat on my makeshift steps watching me light the fire down in the "secret garden"

Secret garden?? Yeah, living out in the middle of no where, the land at the back of the house leads down to woodlands and a river. Its fenced off to stop 1/2pint from ever getting down here without us. Hence "secret garden" as its kept locked behind a hidden fence....

There's just something so calming about a small, controlled fire. We sat there, ate hotdogs and drank our hot chocolate.

Is this the face of a potential serial killer or what?? I think he enjoyed it, he wasn't too fussed on the fireworks, but I think we definitely have a little pyromaniac on our hands....

Luckily the rain held off and we sat there for an hour while the fire burnt out.

As a responsible adult (questionable) I made sure the fire was fully out before heading back indoors. The spent fireworks were made safe and disposed and it all went off with out any injuries. #winner

So until next year, stay safe and burn some stuff...

Hey son; big smile for my boring old internet friends....
Meh dad. Where are the marshmallows?

Very true. Lol

He also had them all on his hot chocolate.

Looks like you had a roaring good time in the "Secret Garden", how many years is it again that you tend to extra land unclaimed before it becomes your property 😉

Mini Welshstacker has got that deadpan look off to a tee hasn't he "I was promised Toffee Apples, Parkin and Cinder Toffee - and all I got was this stupid fire"

Good luck with version 2, Mrs Welshstacker did well to brave the cold so late on - I hope you warmed them both up suitably afterward.

Token sparkler incoming !COFFEEA !DERANGED !MARLIANS

I think it's about 8yrs.... But that point is irrelevant as you can only gain access to that plot through our garden anyway, unless you want to cross a river....

He gets that look from his mother, and yes Ive been on the end of a few of those looks over the years!!

Plenty of cwtches and hot chocolate were the prescription to the cold weather.

I think we just like to all get to get her for a party. The occasion is not important, us Brits will pretty much celebrate anything to get a few drinks inside us.

You are absolutely right on the drinks 😃

Awesome stuff.

We used to have bonfire night here and firecrackers on the "Queens Birthday" (first weekend in June) back when I was a kid and I have very fond memories of nights almost exactly like yours was. But the nanny state took it all away when I was a teenager. We're not allowed to have that sort of fun here any more and we're poorer for it.

Start a new tradition. I thought you lived in the sticks? As long as your neighbours aren't dicks you could have a party/fire/fireworks every January 11th (1101), and call it welshie night. You could tell the family its because of me and how amazing I am, or you could just celebrate your Welsh heritage. 1101 is my birthday BTW!
