Off to the Royal mint to pick up some future investments
It might sound silly to go to the Royal mint to pick up some base metal (cupro-nikel) 10p's (£0.10).
But I have a feeling that these little coins may be worth a lot more than face value in a few years time.
WHY??
COLLECTABLE!!
Allow me to explain.... Three times a week, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, the RM offers a swap-shop where customers visiting those days can exchange 5X regular 10p coins for the new, collectable, lettered 10p's.
Since I work with in walking distance, yes I live and work with in 1mile of the RM, its become a ritual where I go an pick up as many of these coins as I can.
A very quick search of eBay, searching for "sold" items, brings up a very healthy ROI on a 10p which cost me nothing. Well it's cost me the 10 minutes to drive there and back, but since these coins are swaps, I should make about £2 per coin.
5 X £2 = £10 for 10minutes. Now when I do things like this, I always value my time and factor in this to see if its worth doing. So when scaling this up it's £60 ($78usd) an hour. But it gets better, on Sundays I take Mrs Welshstacker and 1/2pint so they can get there 5 coins each too..... Can you see how this really does start to add up??
And everytime I complete a full set (26) I sell them on ebay for around £80 ($105usd). These are the 2019 coins, the 2018 are even harder to complete, but guess what??!!?? YES I SAVED A FEW OF THESE......
I always make sure I keep a few back and watch the prices climb as more and more people need/want them. #supplyanddemand
Now, although I do love the ££££, I'm also a nice guy! So if there are any UK collectors out there and you need any specific coins, drop me a comment and let me know what you need.
They are running out very fast and I can't see there being many left in a week or so, so don't hang about.
Very Cool @welshstacker!! I Really appreciate that you factor in ypur time on the roi!! Too many will spend 2 hours saving 3 bucks when they could have made a bigger impact by doing another action that brings more to them. I might have to see about getting a set from you. Not many sets here in the states. Thanks for sharing brother!!
