Tub (hi)story

There was a time I loved to take a bath.
I even fall asleep in it although I always been allergic to water my mother ignored that fact. A daily bath was common to all of us. No one went to bed without a bath taken first.
I still took a bath as I was pregnant with my first. My first apartment had a shower only and I always felt miserable taking one. Mainly because it felt cold. I always seem to have cold showers and the ones with hardly any water pressure.
After I moved I had a bathtub again.
What a luxury but at the same time a misery. The boiler only contained 120 liters and was refilling/heating up at night only. One bath and it was empty. I could not even wash the dishes.

None of my children ever liked a bathtub.
Already as a baby, just born, they screamed at the tops of their longs and you had to break their limbs to get them into the water. It was stressful for them, for me and pointless. They must have been terrible staying in the whole surrounded by water and no way to escape. Who knows it's part of the reason why they are born too early.

I never had a special bathtub and do no longer care.
All tubs came with the house except for one. It was not the tub I wanted and it's not a practical one. It's built-in the corner and we are too tall to stretch out in it. I decided on a bathtub because the house is so cold but I never use it. Before it's filled the water is cold. The only one who uses the tub is one of my kids. Once a week not once a day. For that occasion, we switch the boiler on. The rest of the week we use cold water.
I never had a clawfoot bathtub either and not even my grannies had one. I guess it was something for the super-rich at that time. My grandfather renovated the villa, was rich but the bathtub was a normal one with tiles around and in front of it. As children we used it but I doubt my granny ever did.
