Robbed again

in ART LOVERS4 years ago

"I have been robbed!"
She was a hundred percent sure it had been there, she had it and suddenly it was gone, all gone.

Tears welled up in her eyes she couldn't stop sobbing.

Why me?!

She panicked as she thought about what they would say to her.

"Calm down, think, when was the last time you saw it, who took it as she was... where... where had she been at that moment?"

She sat at the kitchen table, clenched the dishcloth in her fists while she struggled hard to remember.

Surrounded by the mess she tried to think of what she couldn't recall and had to.

They will come and get you.

"Better clean up first before they get here..."

"I need to tidy up the mess if it all looks fine no one will notice it and I am safe... that's what I'm gonna do, perhaps I'll even find it."

"Cheer up girl."

Relieved she stood up and started cleaning the kitchen it felt so good to be busy for sure she would find it.

As Marie rang the doorbell and Nell didn't answer she decided to walk around to the block and have a look at the backdoor it might be open.

Since the kitchen door was open - it all looked so clean - she went inside calling her friend.

The long walk to her friend had taken her an hour she could use a strong cup of tea with sugar and cream.

As Nell didn't respond on her naming she decided to have a look in the living room big chance she fell asleep in her chair she wasn't the youngest.

Nell sat on her bed.

She tried hard to figure out why it was put in the living next to the dining table, was there something wrong with her bedroom upstairs?

Footsteps sounded in the hallway they came closer... startled she gazed at the slowly turned doorknob... the door squeezed... did the burglars come back for more intend to kill her?

Do not move, sit still they might not hear you please, be invisible.

She made herself small closed her eyes and kept her breath.

I'm invisible no one can see or hear me, they cannot harm me, I'm invisible they can not see me, I...

"Nell?"

It was a familiar voice, shy she opend her eyes, stared at the face.

"Are you alright love, I've been calling for you, didn't you hear me... forgot our appointment... I've got pills."

"... It happened so fast, I couldn't help it I'm so sorry I... they robbed me."

There they were again... those tears... she couldn't help... not stop it, although she cleaned up she hadn't found it, they robbed her again.

"Did you leave the door unlocked again!"

"No, I would never do that you know me."

After tea-time, Marie gave Nell her pills and Nell took hers out of the cabinet above her to please Marie and there it was her precious book stolen.

I really like this story; it's a bit suspenseful. It gave me a chuckle at the end when she found her book. Good job!

Thank you for reading and commenting.

Nell existed she was my grannies elderly friend and always robbed. After her death they found a lot back she claimed it was stolen. Pieces of soup long before the war and more.

Quite interesting, and kind of comical when it's in the past and then everyone finds out once they're gone. Maybe she was a kleptomaniac and didn't think she was stealing especially if she was taking weird things.

@free-reign Nell didn't steal she bought it and saved it somewhere... She forgot where and thought she was robbed. I guess she had as he I et but still lived on her own till the day she died. She had a nice house with a garden and still cooked her laundry in a huge pan on the stove 😁

Still cute and humorous, if not more so. :) So every time something turned up missing, she automatically assumed she'd been robbed? I wonder if the thought ever hit her, that it wasn't logical for so many robberies to happen to her.

@free-reign Indeed. If it was gone, she had been robbed. Perhaps it happened during or after the war and it was not more as a statement?
She was way older as my granny. What I still wonder about is how she managed to live alone. Doing the shoppings, etc.

I agree with free-reign. Now that the years have past and you're able to look back on the ordeal, it is quite funny.

A person told me that he had a grannie that thought that cobwebs were on her food. While others told her that she was nuts and just eat the damn food, which she would not, he agreed with her. He then took the invisible cobwebs off her food and she began eating again.

still cooked her laundry in a huge pan on the stove

haha! I've been thinking about, when I have a place to live again, just putting my stuff in the tub and letting it get clean that way. Going to the laundry mat takes way to much time.

@tristancarax If it is so easy to help them. My granny helped her searching for it.

I did the laundry in a tub for a long time. You know what? It goes faster plus its cleaner as when my machine runs for 3 hours and you only need a piece of handsoap or chestnuts to make soap.
